@al55092142@TonyAndrock@InsideAHLHockey They’ll do the same thing they did with Aho and Nieto. Bring them up as emergency call up, have them practice and warm up, and then reassign them before the game as the emergency conditions no longer exist. They’ll recall them immediately after the game again
@RandomHockeyGuy@EdGrr113 DOC is clearly a guy with immense talent who has struggled to produce, not unlike Pululjarvi. The difference is that DOC is distinctly better on the walls and defensively than Pulujarvi. Nieto, I do understand the frustration, but he gets heavy DZ deployment and kills penalties.
@mattvensel For what it’s worth, it wouldn’t make sense for the Penguins to use LTIR even if Pettersson was going to be out for 10 games/24 days. They’ve got oodles of cap space, and using LTIR would stop them from accruing more.
@Pengman19@mattvensel Deadline to sign would have been June 30th 2025. He needed to be signed to a contract to have a chance of making the team out of camp, so this was a formality like Matt said. Calum Ritchie of the same draft class also signed this year. Just how it goes sometimes.
@nhlpenguins_@AndrewDestin1 You want to maximise how close you are to the salary cap before you put someone on LTIR. Any space you don’t use before you LTIR is essentially lost until you’re no longer using LTIR. There’s a lot more to it; but closer to ceiling = better for LTIR usage
@rosemoczulski1 @SethRorabaugh He could play in the AHL because he was drafted out of a European pro league, but I wouldn’t expect it. Kingston drafted him 10th in the import draft, so it’s either there or back to Finland.
@MtlfanSakic Thank you for the info! I’ll be curious to see if Yamamoto will sign with Edmonton, or if teams are too concerned with the risk of investigation.
@CowboyAroz@TaylorHaasePGH I would assume it’s related to Smith becoming waiver eligible if he plays in 27 more games. Don’t want to waste a game of those remaining 27 when you don’t absolutely need him.
@Jeffs_Penguins@TaylorHaasePGH Typically, one year of CHL play equates to one year of tuition paid for (plus some money for books and housing I think). Some guys can negotiate for 2 years of tuition for 1 year of play, but depends on the junior team being willing to do that.
