Mapping Inequality has a cache of new maps and we are hiring people to write essays on those cities! Historians, planners, housing advocates -- if you are interested in writing on one of these cities, please let us know: https://t.co/JCT4BEHOd0
There are still plenty of essays to be written about cities mapped by HOLC in their City Survey. Get paid to write a short, accessible intro to a city for our ACLS grant. We provide a sample essay and a style guide. See the list and contact us here: https://t.co/UAcriSSLsx

I first heard about the seeds of this Bethlehem-sited work from Shimon Attie a couple years ago and only wish I’d have a chance to see it @LUArtGalleries!

More on the casino chase: Prospect of NYC casinos has loomed for Bethlehem, PA, since its own casino opened a short drive away in 2009. City officials hoped their head start would lead to enough ancillary development to sustain it, but many plans stalled. https://t.co/gLM0U0TBqu
If you haven't been reading @sarasatullo's Edged Out series on @lehighvalley, you absolutely should. These difficult stories out of South Bethlehem could be anywhere.

Today, @lehighvalley launched Edged Out, a 7-month endeavor of community-driven reporting supported by @ReportingHealth. It's been a labor of love and I am so grateful to the many, many Southsiders and local leaders who were so generous with their time. (Read @SteveNovakLVL 🧵👇)
@fedebillie I remember your note from a few years ago @fedebillie. So glad to see my book has made it to Argentina! I’d be curious to hear if you see parallels.
Spread the word: Post-doc position open @AfAmNU to work with kihana miraya ross on a major project about reparations in Evanston funded by @Spencer_Fdn. Looking for scholars at the intersection of education research and Black studies. #NUGrantSuccess https://t.co/0vaUyIaYSK
Another fantastic essay from Ava Tomasula y Garcia about haunting industrial landscapes. “Peering deep beneath the surface makes it clear that no history is inevitable, and nothing—geological, social, or geosocial—is ever purely ‘natural.’” @buellcenter
@JakeAnbinder As one who did write a dissertation about casinos & chanced to visit Macau (& its university), just noting that the juxtaposition & intersections of Macau’s casino history with its much longer histories, including colonialism, is fascinating, complex & deserves more attention.
A good reminder of what has changed (and not) since PA legalized casinos in 2004. And to look back at what was in that bill, which passed within 72 hours of its introduction.
After 11 years, Philly is still the biggest city in America with casinos. So when I reviewed the newest one, I didn’t just want to look only at the design, but what legal gambling has actually done (or not) for us. https://t.co/l9kl7DPy6C
@smallerlarge @SandovalStrausz @NWIHistorian There are a lot of interesting parallels (and differences) to look at between Bethlehem and NW Indiana. @NWIHistorian I’d be happy to connect at any point to learn more about your project (I work at NU now).
@NWIHistorian In addition to all these other wonderful suggestions, Addiction by Design by Natasha Dow Schull is great on the interface of regulation, gaming corps, gamblers.
