Folks in the comments keep ignoring the fact that McDaniel took a QB who’s been a traditional pocket passer his whole career, college and NFL, who’s used to working through his progressions before every throw, and told him to scrap everything he’s done his whole life. Change the footwork, change the processing, and throw to a spot whether a receiver’s there or not.
I have no doubt that Herbert doesn’t like McDaniel and his system. The guy doesn’t have to tell the media or cry in the locker room about his OC. Just look at what’s happened. All McDaniel’s done since he showed up is ignore the guys’s physical tools and his natural QB instincts. And he hates it so much that even though he knows the system is garbage, he still runs the play just to prove a point. And if you think that can’t be true, you haven’t watched enough Herbert over the last 7 years.
