@TimMLatimer Standing on the shoulders of giants, yes, but also, it's almost unbelievable how consistent y'all's results documented in El-Sadi's 2024 paper are with your vision from your 2017 paper. Kick ass process and efficiency improvement! Kudos!
3️⃣ Share the Stories, Not the Statistics: In a post-truth society, bringing facts to a culture war is like bringing a spoon to a knife fight. We need to set aside the numbers and craft narratives and messages that appeal emotionally—and not intellectually—to our fellow citizens.
@stevesi Ha! Now I have to watch it https://t.co/76IbJ84Bzy. There are also success stories like the 545 which I rode dutifully 2007-2014. It's a success not just because it's a pseudo-corp shuttle but also because it's well integrated on the Seattle side with the rest of the system
@stevesi Other notable abominations: the SLUT (South Lake Union) circa 2007, the tram on Broadway (Capitol Hill) circa 2012, the Waterfront tram (which is not even ridden by tourists).
@stevesi Thanks for documenting and frustrating to see Seattle continues what I call "tram to nowhere" where someone on City Council gets an obsession with a street segment and pours lots of public money in a showcase project that's optimal by itself but detrimental to rest of the system.
Sam Altman says it's insane that banks still accept voice prints for authentication.
AI has already broken most of the systems we use to prove who we are, and we're sleepwalking into a synthetic fraud crisis.
“Right now it's a voice call. Soon it's gonna be video. It'll be indistinguishable from reality.”
@jasonbosco I didn’t think there could be something worse that the cookie banner, but The Google login popup is awfully intrusive and has ruined many a website UX. SO has a tradition of caring about UX so I have to wonder if Goog is paying them for that abomination like they’a paying Firefox
@jasonc_nc True dat. Last summer I had a buffet dinner at a 5-star resort in Crete and the dish labeled "Greek salad" was a set of bowls each with a separate ingredient: one tomatoes, another cheese, another onions, etc. I complained about this abomination and was told: British tourists 🤷♂️
Calm. Cool. Collected. Named everyone else on his crew. Said “anyone else would have done the same,” and then saved close to 200 people. A truly humble professional and hero.
I hope this man gets every good thing he deserves.
On this day in 1959, the Dave Brubeck Quartet recorded “Take Five”
Two years later it became a surprise hit and the biggest-selling jazz single ever.
Revived since in numerous movie and television soundtracks, the piece still receives significant radio airplay. The single was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1996.
@stevesi City of Seattle has no vision (sorry, not sorry). And they don't travel to learn. I don't think anyone in the City Council has been for any significant period of time in SF let alone Barcelona, Monaco, Valencia, Marseille, or literally any other city with a welcoming waterfront.
@JohnnyQuachy@pitdesi Grammarly didn't pay $825M. That's just the paper valuation that Superhuman got when they last raised $75M in 2021 https://t.co/6nOG51mZq4
