HISTORIC RECORD HEAT EVERYWHERE
We are gonna live historic days which will be remembered for generations:
Thousands of records will be pulverized at the same time in North,South (40C in winter again !) Americas,Asia and Europe.
Stay tuned. It will be an absolute insanity.
@PauliMdt@giulio_mattioli In 🇩🇪 you don't need a sick leave cert. for the first 3 days (adjustable via contract). It works well, but the current government plans to demand a certificate from the first day after enhanced reporting resulted in higher numbers. The result is expected to be longer sick leaves.
@giulio_mattioli I was wondering why these figures have such a wide spread. Very bad for people haunted by job insecurity and weak social security nets :(
@giulio_mattioli "Why do some nations appear so healthy on paper? These stark differences are rarely a sign of physical vitality. In regions like Romania or Greece, low absenteeism typically indicates high job insecurity and if you don't show up, you often don't get paid."

@zwergy2@giulio_mattioli It's odd that they did the calculation w/o principal payments. That’s pretty unusual?
With principal payments, the tax refund entitlement resulting from interest deductions is gone within ~10 years. Then you pay taxes on any surplus - what you don't do for a owner-occupied home.
NEW RESEARCH: One German tabloid coined one word. "Heizungshammer" spread to 1,100+ articles and helped to effectively kill Germany's heating law.
We analysed 333 BILD articles to trace how tabloid framing became legislation.

"We are not like you, we are solution-oriented pioneers, brave ones, masters of our destiny and of the universse, we bend nature to our will, the sky is the limit!"
[greatest challenge humanity ever faced enters the room]
"Oh let's just accept our dire destiny shall we?"
@giulio_mattioli The comparison is 🚮 – we know rain and use umbrellas, but we have storms with heavy rain and hail now. That's a propper comparison.
America: It's stormy with heavy rain and hail, puts on a 20 lbs full body armor.
Europe: What's wrong with you? That's not a livable environment.
Climate deniers often cite the 1976 heatwave, which I remember well, to say nothing unusual is happening. Scientists looked at it and found this one is much worse, due to global heating. “We are living in a very different climate to 50:years ago”

@Nicolas_Colin@patrickc Simplified: While conservatives were in denial of climate change (and esp. of how costly climate change adjustment would be), progressives were well aware and demanded climate protection (because adding A/Cs would just solve 1 issue, for a list see here:

There is a case for more AC in Europe to cope with the scorching heatwaves brought about by man-made climate change.
But there are many more impacts of heatwaves that will be much harder to adapt to: A THREAD

@Bhess@potatoslav We didn't need AC because our summers weren't as hot as today. But with "Summer of the Century" 2003 it became apparent that climate change will require adoption. Unfortunately we had conservative governments from 2005 on which were in denial - hence no AC in public & healthcare.
@adamscochran Not only "ripping off America" but investors worldwide (incl. reducing local tax revenues by loss offsetting) .
I'll stay away from these markets as long as the Trump family has any remote influence.
(I'm aware I'm a microscopic small fish, but I guess there are a lot if us)

Not sure who's sillier on this site, Elon Musk for claiming history's most infamous far right dictator was a socialist, or the climate change sceptics for saying this temperature in May is fine because a few million years ago the surface of the planet was molten lava.
@uriuriuriknopka@Abrentiepa@saintjavelin Garages with basements is quite not common here in Germany. With all the German car culture it's a real surprise to see Ukraine top us here.
