@SandraWhiteSNP@Clyde1News Living Rent is Scotland’s Tenant and Community union. We represent thousands of tenants across tenants and fight to improve the living standards of ordinary people.
We don’t have a head office and if we did, it wouldn’t be in London…

We live in bleak times, but people are hungry for change. If you give people the tools and confidence to organise for change, we can win big!
Don’t let anyone ever tell you change is impossible, and people are too apathetic to fight for it.
Now what’s next for @Living_Rent? 👀
10 years of blood, sweat and tears but we bloody won it!
Despite a well organised landlord lobby which attempted to undermine the bill at every stage, Scotland now has permanent rent controls for the first time since Thatcher!
I’m so proud to be a @Living_Rent member. 🥺😭🫡
💥We won rent controls.💥
Just now, MSPs voted to pass the Housing bill and with it, rent controls. This bill wouldn’t exist without the work of Living Rent members. It caps rent increases between tenancies, clamps down on disrepair, and strengthens joint tenancy rights.

@Jonathon_Shafi Totally agree and no elected democracy also means no accountability. People are excited by ideas to change the world around them and putting those ideas into action - not endless working groups with no clear focus and strategy to build power.
McAllan’s plans to exempt mid market and build to rent flats from the upcoming housing bill is an utter disaster and will create a two tier system of renters.
The action plan also has no protections for tenants now - we can’t wait until 2027 while rents continue to skyrocket!
I’m on @BBCRadioScot from 4pm to discuss the cabinet secretary’s action plan for the housing emergency.
The plan falls flat while thousands sit on social housing waiting lists. Building more luxury flats through build to rent isn’t going to eradicate child poverty!
1,700 new flats being built in the Calton and not a single one is social housing.
@GlasgowCC should make sure 25% of all new developments are affordable housing (under NPF4) - but it is failing miserably.
We need affordable homes not luxury flats!

Before long Glasgow will be covered in unaffordable build to rent flats and student accommodation, neither of which meet the housing need of working class communities.
It’s high time Glasgow city council stood up to developers looking to make a profit!
🚨Glasgow’s District Nurses are tired of being undervalued. UNISON members demand fair job evaluation, respect and recognition for their vital work.
🗳 Consultative Ballot closes 4 Aug.
📢 Listen up NHS GGC, the next step is a formal strike ballot!

Anyone can sign it regardless of housing situation - homeowners, living with friends and family, tenants obvs and even landlords! (We have a fair few that know the housing system is broken!) so share widely 💪
Did you know that every landlord in Scotland was invited to respond to the Scottish government’s consultation on rent controls? Was every tenant told? Nope!
We need to drown out the landlord lobby; make sure you sign @Living_Rent’s petition!

Today, UNISON NHS GGC Branch raised a formal dispute with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde over Ward Clerk banding.
Ward Clerks have been working above band 2 level for years – it’s time that NHS GGC rectified this injustice and values ward clerks for the important job they do.
@PaulJSweeney@zubirahmed While interventions from MSPs/MPs are certainly welcome, I think the collective power of water row tenants coming together through their union @Living_Rent and tomorrow’s planned rally has clearly had an impact on this… 🤷🏻️ direct action gets the goods!

Imagine a report on the social care workforce crisis that fails to mention the first social care strike in Scotland in over 10 year even though literally hundreds social care workers marched on our parliament today 🤔 Only fair pay will save the sector.
It’s been a real privilege to chair the Dennistoun branch of Living Rent for the past three years.
I’m delighted to be elected chair of @Glasgow_LR. Across our city developers and landlords line their pockets while housing becomes more unaffordable, but we are fighting back!
We are witnessing community venues closing down, public services slashed and a lack of investment in working class communities.
Living rent is the union fighting for ordinary people to have power over our communities.
If you like the sound of that, get signed up and stuck in!
