I am sorry for the ukrainians, but what the hell does she want from the russian players? To say «fuck Putin»? Maybe she is the one who needs to grow up. Just play tennis and shut up. They are not the ones attacking.
Marta Kostyuk on Russian players who avoid giving a clear stance on the war, 'I wish there was some more clear stance on what's going on especially when your country is killing other people'
"Shnaider, after she beat Oliynykova, said, 'I'm not playing an opponent, I'm playing against a ball because the ball is the same.' Andreeva was talking about playing a Ukrainian player, 'I really try against the ball coming at me, it doesn't matter who I'm playing against' is it frustrating to hear? It almost sounds like they're trying to avoid talking about the situation. Is it frustrating?"
"For me it's not frustrating anymore. They are all grown ups. They know what they're talking about, they know whats going on. They have phones, they have instagram, they have news. They're clearly aware of what's going on. If this is something that they want to avoid talking about, they have to live with this, not me. I mean what can I say?"
"They pick a strategy that works for them and that's it. Obviously, not much I can do about it. I wish there was some more clear stance on what's going on especially when your country is killing other people. I don't know how you can sleep at night peacefully when you know that this is going on and you have nothing to say about it. Not much more I can say."

@USTennisCenter It’s easy. He is eastern european. You have to do twice as much to get recognition/sponsors/attention. People look down on eastern europeans.
@Philbixby12@TheTennisLetter He sure didn’t hesitate choking away match points against Novak in important matches. Tennis about winning the last point of the match.
@realdevdp_ And that is fair said, but even you yourself said he is the mentally strongest in history, so how do you expect a hardcore fan to react when that Tony-idiot calls a 24-slam champion a mental midget?
@303peterrabbit1 Yes, but my point is that at 39, still playing well, with Alcaraz and Sinner out, those guys mainly being the only guys beating him in slams, he had real bad luck with the draw.
I never said it, but Wimbledon truly is the last chance of a slam. Got some really tough matches here, played at a good level. We definetely need a better draw. This draw was the worst he ever had perhaps. Wimbledon is not brutal physically compared. I still have one last hope.
@samstreetwrites@108InThe5th Don’t think so. Better chance in day imo. More free points and forehand doing more damage. I think Fonseca can hit through any conditions, and Novak would just be in defence the whole match.
@Certinfy Dude stop it. Too much energy spent with Ruud and Zverev next in line. He beats them with a full tank, but at 39 with 3 long matches behind him, there would not be more left in the tank. Even 5 years ago at USO he had nothing left
Man we really missed no.25 because of the worst draw ever. Royer peaked out of his brain two days ago, and Fonseca plays the best match of his life. Why do these idiots only peak against Novak. Its sick.
@Topspin_righty@kela9123 1st round vs semis, when you have played yourself into form, is not comparable. Anyways, it happened only that one time in his prime. Maybe lost a set early in 2013 as well, against that Brands guy.
