@dgoold In a performance based industry, the cardinals owe nothing to anyone who’s underperforming.
In fact, I think it could be argued that they owe it to their prospects in AAA to be evaluated at the MLB level.
@Not_NikolaJokic@SandyMac718 Not with that attitude!
For real tho, the return is kinda moot. Hes a FA after the season. I’m not 100% against extending him but I really don’t think he’s gonna entertain that.
I’m good if u want to give him a deadline to sign.
@SandyMac718 The only reason not to trade him, would be if Chaim believed this was a World Series caliber team. If Chaim believes that, he should be fired immediately.
There’s 0% reason to believe Dustin May isn’t going to test FA this offseason. U must trade.
@Orange_Blue_Red@BKSportsTalk That doesn’t matter, but didn’t Chapman do that a few years ago?
Regardless, May + prospects > May alone.
I won’t be mad if they extend him, I just don’t think it’s realistic.
@calebnoble08@TortsIllustrtd Yeah man, it totally worked for the Brewers in 2022 when they traded Hader, right? Those brewers went on to win the pennant in 2022…
Same in 2023 when the O’s had the best record in baseball despite being ahead of the rebuild and bolstered their staff by trading for Flaherty…
@echann7 Just don’t do 2023! Pretty much down to svanson and Roby left. Prieto and Saggesse technically still on the team, but looks like they’ve been lapped by other utility pieces recently.
@RedbirdFarmhand Worth mentioning how shitty Liam Doyle’s start was. It was a big setback after a couple of strong starts. Hopefully he can gain some confidence in those secondaries asap,
@Rinedog1 Blue jays have a top 100 prospect at 3b that’s near promotion ready. I’d love to see us try to flip May for someone that can play at the hot corner by 2028.
Wanting to sign May in 2027 should habe no bearing on trading him in 2026.
@SandyMac718@RedbirdFarmhand@AidanG_Baseball He also doesn’t have the pedigree of a high draft pick which is going to hurt him in the national rankings, right? I feel like a lot of times the unheralded guys are overlooked…
@joshjaco98 I’m guessing Ran Rod moved up because others have graduated from their rankings, because he has really been going through it since the promotion to Springfield on May 12th.
By contrast, Baez had a strong May (k’s notwithstanding.)
@AdamAkbani If the cardinals believe their competitive window opens in 2028, then they should be doing their due diligence on Blaze and other graduating minor league players now.
Gorman has his own warts and has been giving years of “runway” already.
