Finished Galahad and the Grail this morning and am now reading the appendices. Time will tell, but it’s quite possible that this and the next three in the series will be the greatest works written during our time here on earth.
When artist (@stephencrotts) & bard (@malcolmguite) become one:
“For she (Dindrane) would see the stars wheel by
and hear their music from on high
and feel their influence and cry
in ecstasy when she’d descry
a sphere of silver light draw nigh.
Then she would lift her eyes and spy
above the valley’s chalice high
the wafer of the moon.”
Friday morning reading: Galahad and the Grail by @malcolmguite with illustrations by @stephencrotts. I read book one of three this morning, “The Coming of Galahad.” Book two is “Adventures of the Quest” and book three is “The Achievement of the Grail.” This is the first volume released of what will be a four-volume epic over the next few years. It’s absolutely stunning and I’m quite in awe so far.
My 3-year-old and I have been reading "Galahad and the Grail" at bedtime. A true delight, @malcolmguite . The boy especially loves @stephencrotts' illustrations.
@solleticia02@booksoftitans I think a good overview/compilation like Roger Lancelyn Green’s is a decent way to begin. Or you can begin “in medias res” with Guite’s Galahad as I did. Starting with the Grail quest can frame up the other tales.
It’s so good when a reviewer ( in this case @SketchesbyBoze ) completely understands both the tradition and the contemporary context in which you’re writing. Result: a really in depth review https://t.co/GJNfSHS5Hb
Just finished @malcolmguite's Galahad and the Grail.
Speechless. Exactly the poem we need right now.
If I loved it less, I could talk about it more. Utterly wonderful in everyway.
@booksoftitans@malcolmguite Roger Lancelyn Green’s version streamlines Malory’s repetitive compilation. Good starting place for people who want broad strokes.
A beautiful and addictive read indeed. The poetic retelling of the classic Arthurian legends. I'll certainly be sticking around for the following volumes. ✝️
From @malcolmguite & illustrated by @stephencrotts Congrats to you both on the success of the book.
@mjjhoskin@SueBursztynski Not specifically Arthurian, but you might enjoy Hugh Ross Williamson’s The Flowering Hawthorn - about the Glastonbury legends
