@carlworker They are still free to see whoever they want to see - they just won’t get a visa to enter China for a year. Unless it’s suggested China is not free to manage its borders!
@POLITIKwebsite Both are tilting at windmills. UNDRIP had been cited in other recent FTAs including NZ/UAE. Not even UK or EU FTAs have adopted specific labour standards although they are more forward leaning than India which generally bristles at inclusion of more significant references.
@EricCrampton@POLITIKwebsite I don’t believe so except that in a footnote it is noted that while India has adopted the convention it regards all its citizens as indigenous! Honestly it is all rather pro forma as opposed to applying any specific rights or obligations.

It’s all about fixing the basics and building the future.
In this webinar, moderated by business leader Rachel Taulelei, Minister for Trade and Investment Hon Todd McClay and Labour Spokesperson for Trade and Economic Growth Damien O’Connor will reflect on the conditions that enable bipartisan approach, the experience of implementing it, what happens when bipartisanship reaches its limits, and what lessons we could draw for equally important areas of New Zealand policy where a long-term, consistent approach will be essential to meet our future needs.
Join us on Monday, 29 June at 3 pm NZST.

Pope Leo XIV: “It is, therefore, not enough to state simply that men and women have equal dignity and rights; it is necessary that this be reflected in concrete decisions, such as in laws, access to employment, education, social and political responsibilities, and the way society listens to and values women’s contributions. As long as this gap persists, we cannot say that society truly and fully recognizes that women have the same dignity as men.”
@pcmcbride16 McBride, I’m talking about a transition but there will be alternatives to FF. Just like in other transitions. You need to take a longer view.
@davidcapie As I understand it there is no routine
