The football coaching community is the best, and we couldn't have done it without you!
I see a lot of b2b startups moving to multiyear pricing from monthly or annual. I think this is usually a bad idea. It hides customer delight issues. It lengthens sales cycles. Overall, it just reduces the signal startups need.
I've been thru 5 tech waves*, but AI hits differently:
-Fastest adoption (100M GPT users in a year)
-Nearly every tech company is now an AI company
-100 IRL AI events in SF per month
-Most developed governments leaned into AI within 6 mos.
-Nearly Every VC firm is investing in AI
*DotCom, Web2, Sharing Economy, Web3, now AI
I know I say this all the time, but many people underestimate how much the market moves based on options positioning, liquidity, seasonality, and psychology. It's not just a simple valuation calculation.
AI is Consequential:
Google likely to layoff 30,000 employees post new AI innovation
“The proposed restructuring is anticipated to primarily impact Google's ad sales department, where the company is exploring the benefits of leveraging AI for operational efficiency.”
BTW: many of these laid off will start companies. It’s the natural order in Silicon Valley.

Jay Wright said, "Your attitude is your greatest characteristic. You don't control your intelligence, your size, or your God-given talents. What you do control, though, is your attitude. We can all have a positive attitude."
Your attitude is a choice.
It's a choice on how you want to respond to life's challenges.
A positive attitude is a choice for hope and belief.
A negative attitude is a choice for negativity and problems.
There will always be adversity, but it's your attitude and mindset that will determine how far you go.
6 Ways To Improve Your Attitude:
1. Prioritize What's Within Your Control - It starts with your ability to focus. Take ownership and control of what you can control. When you realize that you can control your mindset and attitude, you start to view external challenges for what they are, just challenges. Have a growth-mindset and believe that you can grow and improve
2. Transform Your Negative Self-Talk - Challenge your negative thoughts. Replace your negative words with positive affirmations. Your words are powerful, especially the words that you speak to yourself. Studies show that positive self-talk can enhance your confidence and reduce stress.
3. Create an Attitude of Gratitude - Feed yourself positivity, gratitude, and greatness instead of listening to complaining, negativity, and doubt. Spend time thinking about the positive aspects of your life. Research shows that practicing gratitude daily can lead to improved mood and overall well-being.
4. Stay Present - BE HERE NOW - When you focus on the present, you reduce stress and anxiety because you aren’t worrying about the past or anxious about the future. All we have is the present moment. Your attitude and mindset depends on your ability to be mindful of your environment.
5. Create Positive Moments and Connect - Connect with others and spend time with the people that you like. When you have an attitude of connection, you look for positivity and realize your effect on others. You also realize that others bring you support in those times of need.
6. Believe in Yourself and Your Future - Cultivate self-belief. Research has shown that having a positive self-view predicts improves your self-esteem and confidence. When you believe in your future, you take ownership and responsibility for your choices and actions because you believe they will affect your future.
"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s way. - Viktor Frankl
Amazon’s machine learning model is so cool.
It highlights both potential blitzes before the play, Alvin Kamara doesn’t pick it up, and Derek Carr gets hit as he throws.
It's only a matter of time before teams want access to this data.

Frank Martin discusses parents attempting to coach their kids from the sidelines.
I wanted to be an investment banker after college.
My grades weren’t good enough and I blew the interviews I did get.
I accepted a middle office role, supporting traders who liked to fling bottle caps at my head.
I pivoted to working as a credit analyst, underwriting loans for ultra-wealthy clients.
Not 10% as sexy as Investment Banking, but I learned a ton and worked for some of the best people I ever met in my career.
I applied to work for the CIO of asset management next.
I didn’t get the job.
The people that worked for him were mostly former investment banking analysts, or at least had killer resumes and intellect.
I had neither.
But I applied again, and in our 1x1 interview, I told him I would outwork anyone.
I got the job this time.
It was 2009, and he was responsible for guiding the ship for J.P. Morgan’s richest clients.
I worked 7 days a week, a slave to my blackberry, but I absolutely loved it.
The role lasted a few years, that's the most you can last at the pace he sustained.
I pivoted again.
This time I was picking technology stocks for a large fund inside J.P. Morgan.
I loved it, and I added value.
When I realized that your compensation isn’t really tied to the alpha you generate, I lost all steam.
I pivoted again.
Moved to a hedge fund.
The hedge fund blew up 3 months after I showed up.
I pivoted again.
I started advising hedge funds on big ideas.
Self Storage was the first one we found that had a big opportunity.
We were successful and made our clients a lot of money, but our business model wasn’t scalable.
So I pivoted again.
We found that no one had figured out where every storage facility was.
We built the tech and grinded for 2 years to solve that problem.
Today most people in the storage industry use our platform @radius_plus
When we found a new way to think about developing but our clients didn’t think it was worth what we did, I pivoted again.
I called one of my favorite clients and pitched the idea of starting a private equity real estate firm to build storage in a way that no one was.
@dxd_capital was created.
3 years in and we’ve raised $150MM in capital so far and built some beautiful buildings (see below).
Everything you’ve read to this point has taken 20 years.
I haven’t had any big liquidity events, still drive a shitty car and rent a 1,900 sq/ft home.
It takes a long time.
I failed & pivoted a lot.
I had to have blind faith that I would find success.
Most days I struggled to not think that I was a failure.
Your path will look different, but if you outwork everyone and continue to push your own ceiling, then you will find success.
I promise.
