So many factors affect people evacuating. No plan will ever work perfectly. And it’s not as easy as it sounds. I live in FL. Used to live in West Palm Beach and went through quite a few hurricanes. Here are only a few things preventing people from evacuating early:
1) Job. You want to leave town early….days before it is supposed to hit, but you have no vacation time as you are an hourly employee, and your boss says you’ll lose your job if you don’t come to work. And, plus, hurricanes have been known to move. You don’t work, you don’t get paid. How do you pay for a hotel & food? This could be many people. I had a salaried job and would leave town with my kids when it looked like it would be worse than a Cat 1. I had to use vacation and my company still gave me a hard time about it. And also gave me a hard time because I wouldn’t come home, even though there was still no electricity in my neighborhood. How exactly would I get ready for work, much less work without electricity?
2) Essential job…healthcare workers (& others like police, firefighters etc) are considered essential personnel and have Hurricane duty. They HAVE to stay or lose their jobs.
3) Money. It takes money to pay for hotels & meals and gas. And you need to bring cash in case you still experience a power outage. Not everyone has the $$ to leave.
4) Transportation. Like money, you need transportation. You’re not going on vacation. You actually need to bring documents with you. Things you don’t want list (photos or irreplaceable keepsakes). It’s not just packing a quick overnight bag and hopping on a bus.
5) Hurricanes change paths. You evacuate, and then find you evacuated right into the path because the trajectory moved. Or hurricanes dissipate into rain & wind you evacuated, spent a lot of money, and all for no reason.
6) Numbers. Just the sheer volume of people leaving is something difficult to comprehend unless you’ve done it. It causes THE largest gridlock ever. There are only so many roads leading away from the path of the hurricane. A 5 hour drive can take 9+ hours…all while you pray you can find a gas station with gas. People who don’t normally drive, and haven’t taken care of their vehicles are causing major traffic jams with accidents or breakdowns on the side of the road, or with just really bad driving. It’s crazy, and I’ve been in that situation with 2 kids and a dog. So you could leave early and then get stuck.
7) Some people just won’t leave no matter what. You can’t convince them. You’ll want to judge them. Don’t. They have their reasons. Let them deal with the consequences.
Americans with student loans are out here begging people to listen because we are spending DECADES paying on these loans, but the balances never move. I have paid my entire loan balance from 2006 + $10,000, & I still owe more than the original loan. THIS IS CALLED USURY, & it is the norm. Debt consolidation scams are also rampant. My debt is on the lower end, but people are out here with 6 figure loan balances they will NEVER pay off. These aren’t loans, it’s crime.
Unfortunately, a lot of people—older Americans especially—have no idea this is our reality. Individuals are blamed, instead of the *extremely lucrative* student loans scam. People say, “Just pay your debts.” WE PAID OUR DEBTS, and then we paid them again, & again, & again. The balances never budge. I graduated college 20 years ago. End Stage Capitalism is SO bleak.

I’m not intimidating, ur intimidated. There's a difference. I'm not mean, nor aggressive, I’m honest & assertive and that makes u uncomfortable. It’s not ME that makes you uncomfortable, my PRESENCE challenges your comfort. I will not be less for you to feel better about yourself
“They’re using you”. Actually, they’re receiving genuine love from me while they play themselves bc one thing about life, is that it always catches up to you sooner or later. I’ll never regret the kindness I pour out.

Honestly the best piece of advice I can give to younger girls trying to figure life out is to completely ignore men. I'm not being quirky or cute when I say that, I mean it seriously. Ignore men's judgments of you, ignore their insincere compliments, ignore their half-assed romance.
Focus on developing yourself. Practice your art, play sports, do theater, volunteer, spend time with your friends, but do not put substantial effort into pleasing men. They'll be there for you to pursue when the time comes and if you want to. But nothing will waste your youth more than fighting for male acceptance.
One day men will understand that women are reciprocators, not initiators. They step AFTER y’all step. You lead, they FOLLOW. Idk how else to explain this but it’s really SO simple.
I grew up walking on eggshells, recognizing footsteps, tones. How to tell if someone was in a bad mood and to avoid them. I learned to study people at a young age. I'm quiet and observant for a reason. I'll read you like a book before we even speak.
