Amazing presentation by Dr. Stephanie Chan @stephtomycin about the impact of peer microaggressions during residency at #ICRE2023. "Death by a thousand cuts"... What we say to our colleagues really matters! @SteveGauthier_ @DrMalaJoneja @queensuim
Not sure the reason behind this but it’s part of the greater trend in medicine of stomping out creativity. Medicine values standardization/protocols/templates. Couple that with 70+ hr wks & we lose the time & energy for creative pursuits. We need to nurture creativity in medicine
Congrats @justin_p_boyle on a great presentation at DOM Grand Rounds sharing our research on micro aggressions and their impact on how we see ourselves as doctors!

"I want to speak to the senior doctor."
"That's me."
"No, like... the supervisor."
"Yup, that's me."
"No, no the... big doctor. The boss. He's usually older."
"Oh, is he?"

That cardiac arrest didn’t happen in my body, but it very much happened to me, too. Patients are not cases. They are people, who love and are loved by other people. Their lives are often intertwined, impossible to try to extricate into separate bins of “patient” & “not patient.”
