There is no #health security without immunization.

Today, at the start of European Immunization Week, @UNICEF_ECA Director @R_DeDominicis and I issued a statement calling on every government and community across Europe & Central Asia to:

🔹Keep funding #vaccines & #immunization services as a top health priority.

🔹Make timely #vaccination easily accessible to everyone.

🔹Build public trust by empowering health workers & countering #misinformation.

Despite decades of progress, vaccine-preventable diseases are making a comeback — not because we lack the tools, but because not everyone is getting lifesaving vaccines.

Consequences?

🔹In 2024, measles cases in our Region surpassed 127,000 — the highest in 27 years.

🔹Whooping cough (pertussis) cases reached 87,000 in 2023 — the highest in 29 years.

🔹Diphtheria cases rose to 578 in 2022 and 264 in 2023 — compared to fewer than 100 per year over the previous decade.

The evidence is clear: when vaccine coverage is high and fair, health systems are stronger, families are safer, and countries have greater health security.

It’s time to show that immunization for all is humanly possible.
