It's shocking to lose in one day so many of the best international reporters I've ever worked alongside, whose investigations into Israeli conduct in Gaza merited Pulitzer finalist recognition just last year. There aren't many newsrooms left in the world where visual and forensic investigations can be paired with on the ground reporters who can access vast networks of sources and knowledge. Louisa and the rest of the Middle East team are one of a kind.
They say you haven’t lived until you’ve been laid off. I’ve now lived once.
Gutted to see so many coworkers lose their jobs at the Post today. If you know anyone who’s hiring a politics/culture/magazine writer with a law degree who also speaks Spanish:

Laid off from the Washington Post, along with the entire roster of Middle East correspondents and our editors. Hard to understand the logic. But I am grateful for my incredible colleagues, whose grit and dedication to the reporting and each other I will miss dearly.
hey guys, just to confirm this is indeed my fundraiser. i didn't want to ask for help, but i do need it.
my cancer is back. i am going through a lobectomy next week, the very same surgery Walter White undergoes. my bills are massive, but this has been an incredible help already. i can't express how grateful i am. thank you so much everyone.

The District of Columbia is in its earthy architecture era. I wrote about metals and ceramics like copper and terracotta and why you're seeing them in new buildings all over the city

When Bad Bunny opened the 2023 Grammys, it was a milestone for reggaeton — the once-underground genre that emerged from Panama and reached a global scale.

it’s a hard goodbye for 2 of my dear friends leaving the Washington Post, our comics writers @adcfanboy and @comicriffs. too much talent leaving us as we end the year. it’s difficult to process.
🚨 The Washington Post Guild has reached a tentative agreement with The Washington Post after 18 months of contract negotiations.
This deal is the best contract Washington Post employees have seen in 50 years.
They went to high school together in Ramallah. They were shot together in Vermont. “No family should ever have to endure this pain and agony. Our children are dedicated students who deserve to be able to focus on their studies and building their futures.”

Hip-hop is an art form that rewards style and originality yet constantly pays homage to the artists on whose shoulders it stands.
We talked to hip-hop figures from various eras and regions. By having artists share what they love about hip-hop and hope they’ll remind you of what you love too, or introduce you to songs you’d overlooked. https://t.co/ZGUbR985XD
Last year, I spent three days with Frost Giant, who are trying to build the next great RTS — a successor to genre greats like Warcraft and StarCraft.

For a decade, humanities enrollment has plummeted. What’s going on? In this week’s @NewYorker, I report at two campuses—ASU and Harvard—and ask “what it might mean to graduate a college generation with less education in the human past” than any before. https://t.co/lLp4h07I5m
