Ahead of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, Sir Michael Morpurgo discusses the inspiration behind his new book ‘Finding Alfie’ and why we must talk to children about war. With stunning illustrations by Michael Foreman. In today’s @Telegraph@TelegraphBooks
After discovering an envelope filled with paper airplanes the children listened to the story 'Pigs Might Fly' by Jonathan Emmett and Steve Cox. They then created and tested their own planes as part of the 'Hook'. @PieCorbett#TalkforWriting@JonathanEmmett
@DazzoD1@GylesB1 I think it was along the lines of "the only rat to join a sinking ship" as opposed to the well-known saying of "like rats leaving a sinking ship'...a slight but noteworthy difference :)
@Ratfans A few of the books I illustrated and managed to hang on to from the 80s. The first one I did was 'Rat On The Road'. I first met RR at the TVAM Studios in Camden sometime in 1985 I think.
@Ratfans That's my pencil drawing I did on the back of an envelope when I sent something or other to David Claridge. He said it was one of his favourites.
@Ratfans@rolandrat@Schofe I was the main illustrator for RR back in the 80s. I did the illustrations for the opening credits for the BBC and helped with the animation. I still have the illustrations used in that sequence. I also met Phillip Schofield at the BBC when I was with DC being shown around.

AI has been a prominent (and concerning) topic of discussion these past few months. The technology is currently developing faster than the legislation around it, which needs to be urgently addressed.

@MartinSLewis When I were a lad at school, we had ‘dinner time’ and ‘dinner ladies’ who would dish it up. We would also get pudding, not desert. I now have dinner in the evening though.
Perhaps the ppl of North Shropshire would like to know that Cornwall voted to give up EU funding for Johnson Gove promises.
They now get £1 for every £8,333 they got from the EU.
Perhaps a few retweets might get the message up there?
