But no one including Stearns thought Alonso wouldn't be one of the more productive first baseman in baseball... so this point is kinda useless.

I think Tracy should be there because his speed adds another element to the RB rotation... it just seems from the reports that Harris could be the 2nd guy up behind Skat week 1

Clay Holmes has been excellent all season: 2.09 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, .203 BAA.

He’s been even sharper since the Cubs got him at the deadline:

29.1 IP, 1.55 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 3.22 FIP

I’ll always root for Clay and wouldn’t mind bringing him back this offseason.

Put it in the books… the Mets take the opening game of the series behind 5.1 IP of scoreless ball from Robert Stock and a HR from Mark Vientos in his return from the IL.

Stock had the best outing of his Mets tenure going 5.1 scoreless with 4 Ks, 5 hits, and 0 walks… that was the key for Stock who had really struggled with control and free passes in his previous outings.

His stuff looked sharp today generating 11 swings and misses while generally avoiding hard contact and not allowing a single XBH… Stock earned his first win of the season and as a Met with that performance.

Nate Lavender bounced back after not being able to strand runners for Christian Scott this weekend… he recorded 2 outs to preserve Stock's line on the day. Lavender continues to hold a 0.00 ERA through 11 career outings (very impressive).

Daniel Duarte struggled for a 2nd straight night after allowing a run in just 1 of his 17 outings prior to these 2… I don't think this is anything to be concerned about, just a guy who was eventually going to cool off. He has a 2.19 ERA and 0.81 WHIP… the results have been very legit.

Speaking of legit results, Kodai Senga showed up in a big way again nailing down his 5th save of the year… Senga has a 1.74 ERA since moving into the high leverage role at the start of August.

Chris Devenski relieved Duarte in the 8th and got a key out to keep it at 3-2… Devenski has looked solid in his very limited time since being recalled from AAA.

Ian Seymour had sharp stuff tonight generating 19 swings and misses and striking out 7 of the first 9 Mets he faced on his way to 10 Ks in 6.1 IP of 3 run ball… the Mets offense still battled for 10 hits with everyone in the starting lineup getting one except leadoff hitter Francisco Lindor.

Mark Vientos made a statement return from the IL with a blast out to left center… Vientos was red hot on his rehab assignment and he needs to impress the Mets in the final month after the disastrous year he has had so far.

Jared Young stayed hot by mashing another double to right center - .298 ba + .802 OPS in August

AJ Ewing has struggled mightily in the 2nd half but had 2 nice hits today… hopefully a positive sign that the bat is turning a corner, he's reached base 4 times over the last 2 days.

Francisco Alvarez had a clutch 2 out RBI with an opposite field single… I love seeing that approach from Alvy and him not trying to do too much.

Christopher Morel made 2 stellar plays in LF, one with his arm and one with the bases loaded, to preserve Stock's scoreless outing and save at least 2 runs… he also added a hit in 3 ABs.

September call up Justin Hagenman gets the start tomorrow as the Mets go for the series win at Tropicana Field… #LGM

The Giants are "thought to be targeting" adding another center to their roster for "potential" competition with John Michael Schmitz prior to Week 1, per Ryan Dunleavy and his sources.

JMS enters his 4th season with the Giants and has shown very little improvement.

It's certainly not shocking if they bring in competition.

@MetsJoe22 if he had a market they would've traded him at the deadline. Acuna sucks we traded nothing for him and we have the richest owner in baseball... there was absolutely 0 risk with acquiring LRJ.

Stearns screwed up last offseason but complaining about LRJ acquisition is nonsense.
