The Mets have played their best baseball of the season so far in August - 12-8 on the month. The offense has woken up and had a team OPS of .765 and 31 HRs over that stretch.

The Brewers have had a tremendous year and lead MLB with the best record at 81-50 + 6 out of their last 8. Kyle Harrison takes the mound for them today... the young lefty has had a great season so far - 2.83 era, 3.24 FIP, 30.6% K%.

Harrison has also been very successful lately - 1.84 era across 3 starts in August... very few Mets have faced Harrison - (LRJ: 1/3, Lindor: 1/2, 2B, Wagaman: 1/2)

Zac Thornton takes the ball for the 10th time in his major league career... he has had very good results through 9 starts - 3.04 era, 1.152 whip, 18.0% K%, 7% BB%.

Thornton had a terrific start his first time out against the Brewers tossing 6 scoreless innings and allowing just 4 baserunners on the day... he needed just 81 pitches that day.

Lindor continues to lead off against left hander and AJ Ewing has been slotted in at the #9 hole... it gives them a nice speed element and the opportunity to turn the lineup card over with a + runner.

On top of that, Ewing has not swung it good for most of the 2nd half - .197 ba and .520 OPS since the mid summer classic. The reality is Ewing is way ahead of development and as talented as he is there was always going to be growing pains and struggles... I fully believe he is going to turn it around and this is nothing more than a young player who is going through a rough patch in his rookie year.

Carson Benge on the other hand has just gotten better and better as the season has gone along and has finally started to get some recognition in the NL ROY conversation - Benge since 05/03 .302 ba + .832 OPS and 14 HRs.

Luis Robert Jr slides back into CF after a few days out in LF... Andy Green said was going to rotate Ewing and him every few games. Ewing projects to get the majority of the starts in CF.

Robert has been tremendous at the plate in the 2nd half - .291/.339/.582 + .921 OPS

Torrens has been the Mets hottest hitter and starts the opener today against a lefty and Alvy gets the day off... Torrens has hit 6/8 HRs in the 2nd half and slashed .314/.386/.706 with a 1.092 OPS.

Bullpen should be fully stocked today for a difficult test against the Brewers... the new look Mets BP has been excellent since the deadline - 3.00 era (5th in MLB) and the Mets have gone 12-6 over that period.

The Mets would need a miracle run and could only afford to lose 6 or less of their final 31 games to have a chance at the playoffs... that run would have to start with a strong series vs the team with the best record in baseball.

The Mets #1 prospect has 5 HRs and a .917 OPS in 17 games since the Cubs trade.

He's looked every bit the part and sparked a big run for Binghamton... 16 of 18 wins since the deadline...

Alvy certainly isn't perfect but this sample size definitely doesn't tell the story of his whole season... he swung the bat really well for most of the summer. Rough patches happen.

It is crazy that these two pitches come out of virtually the same arm slot and move so differently... his stuff is simply filthy.

McLean will eventually improve his control and command his plethora of + pitches... and when he does he will be a top 5 pitcher in the game.

Torrens is 12th in WAR among catchers (per Fangraphs).

One of the best defensive catchers in MLB... 12.5 Def (4th), 9 FRV (5th), 6 OAA framing (T2nd), 1.86 pop time (96th pct).

His recent offensive surge has his numbers back at league average: .713 OPS, 100 wRC+.

The Mets are playing their best baseball of the season right now and they've done it without Soto in the lineup every night...

Robert Stock had a strong outing but his command is still keeping him from pitching deep into games. The stuff was nasty today... 10 whiffs and 6 Ks... and he does a great job limiting hard contact. Stock certainly has the stuff to stick at this level, the command just has to catch up. Final line: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 6 K

The bullpen was terrific once again with 4.2 IP of 1 run ball... they own the 2nd best pen ERA since the ASB

Jonathan Pintaro has thrown 6.1 IP in August and allowed just 1 run... if he limits the walks he'll be even more consistent

Nate Lavender and Daniel Duarte are both sensational and will likely be pieces of the 2027 pen... Lavender picked up his first career win today and has opened his MLB career with 7 straight scoreless outings with a fastball that's nasty at just 93 mph / Duarte has a 0.84 ERA with a sub 1.000 WHIP and has held opponents scoreless in 15 of 16 outings

Senga stumbled a bit but settled in and rolled a double play ball to Semien to keep the scoreless streak alive since moving to 1 IP spurts...

Both the psychopaths (Benge and Ewing) had excellent days... Benge hit an opposite field HR down the LF line and added another hit / Ewing got on base twice and swiped his 17th bag as he looks to be climbing out of his slump at the plate

Bo Bichette scored twice, drew a BB, and put together some quality ABs this afternoon...

Jared Young had 2 hits yet again (5 multi-hit games in August) and owns a .850 OPS since the ASB... JY just keeps coming through with key hits to extend leads and fuel late rallies

The Mets head to Chicago this weekend for a 3 game set with the White Sox... Manaea, Scott, and McLean take the mound

Austin Warren looked very sharp in his return from the IL... 2 Ks and a flyout.

Landed the sweeper for strikes behind in the count, and the sinker was unhittable running away from lefty hitters... Warren will make this red hot pen even stronger
