@wegfawefgawefg@Peter_shirley Haha, okay, I’ll try jit. No wonder native code is going to beat the crap of interpreted, even if it’s byte code and not AST traversal. I suspect though my implementation is creating a ton of garbage, because it allocates a lot of very short lived tables.
Every time I teach myself a new programming language, I implement @Peter_shirley’s toy raytracer in it. This is Lua, which managed to render this 1024 spp 400x225 image in just under 3 hours on a single core of M1 Pro, with BVH.
@wegfawefgawefg@Peter_shirley No, it’s pure Lua 5.4. I’ll try LuaJIT some other day. The point was not optimisation, but just trying a taste of the language. I did the same thing in Rust a couple years ago, and it was at least 10x faster, maybe 100x, but I don’t remember the exact number.
Tiny Glade is out NOW on Steam (Win & Linux) 💗🎉
Thank you so much for following the development and being so supportive of our little diorama builder.
We hope you have fun, and I can’t wait to see what you make 🤩 If you post your glades, add #TinyGlade so I can find 'em :D
@FreyaHolmer In an algebra over real numbers and infinity, where “addition” is “min”, and multiplication is “max”, infinity is an additive identity, and 0 is a multiplicative identity
