@LumaDock You just sent me, via plaintext email, the IP address of my VM, my SSH port, my root username, and my administrator password via email -- everything needed for someone to take over my server. Email is NOT secure. Nor should you EVER store my password - only the hash.
Ouch! Alaska Air has had a bad stretch of IT issues recently (while integrating) Hawaiian. Website degradation &issues with the iPhone app. Then the IT outage grounding their entire fleet last week. And today there's an Azure outage that's impacting their website again. Oof.
Engineering is the art of efficiently applying physics.
SpaceX Raptor v3 rocket engine is the epitome of the engineering mantra “The best part is no part” — Can't wait to see this marvel of aerospace engineering in action on Starship and Super Heavy Booster 🚀
@AaronErickson Maybe think of “noughts and crosses” (UK for tic-tac-toe). Then that decade is the “noughties”. Has a better ring to it since you get the play on words. :-)

Thanks, @JamesMaguire, for the opportunity! Generative AI has an amazing short term and long term future. It's quite the wave we're all getting to ride! #eweekchat
Thanks all! This has been another excellent #eWEEKchat. Serious insight about #GenAI – great to see this monthly gathering. Stay tuned for next month’s chat!
@JamesMaguire There's a risk that many human cognitive skills will only rise to the level of the gen AI models. When you're a beginner, but can use AI to write like a good journalist, it's hard to justify the work to push all the way to excellence. Early work doesn't show progress. #eweekchat
A8: Very, very fuzzy forecast! No one expected being radically connected by the internet would create an epidemic of loneliness, but it has. Likewise, gen AI will have many unforeseen effects – both positive and negative. #eWEEKchat
@JamesMaguire There are the traditional ones: ease of creating misinformation, fraud and flooding the internet with repetitive AI-created content. But I'm expecting to see societal issues, including lack of writing ability and critical thinking skills in the next generations. #eweekchat
Chip manufacturers, both major players and startups, are creating LLM-on-a-chip products. Although they will be locked in time (assuming offline updates), when fed with source data they will be very powerful edge tools. #eweekchat
@zkerravala AI teams are evolving so rapidly that it's very difficult to even manage the correct mix of skills. Prior to LLMs the skills were model training and data cleaning. Now? Prompting (and data cleaning...) #eweekchat
A6: Staying ahead is not possible in generative AI. The best companies can hope for is to keep abreast of the changes in their narrow scope of interest. Want to keep up? Use the tools others are creating. Most will have limited value, but there will be diamonds. #eweekchat
