@levelsio It's a little early to write Google's obituary. Xerox was sitting on the windows-based PC and failed to exploit it. OTOH, 1/4 of Google's software now AI generated, plus TPUs, Gemini, etc.
To get a feeling of the future of AI, you should pay attention to the labs but also to the performance artists.
This sounds cryptic but I mean it literally.
What I would add to this already eye-opening story:
Many high school kids have never seen a *textbook.* The very idea that concepts can be laid out in a linear argument or presented cumulatively—whether it’s history or math—is foreign to them. https://t.co/Yp9iVrIWT7
Amazing that I can drop the text of Dear Mustafa into NotebookLM, press a button, and out pops a great review podcast of the book!

Hard to believe. Chapter 6 of Italo Calvino's 1980 book "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler" anticipated the computer written books that AI might deliver soon.
@tunguz@CEObyDayMCat Other way around. With a finite resource, at least in the short run, you want to squeeze as much value as possible from each unit of energy. I can't think of an industry that's improved with a decrease in energy efficiency.
The Sam Altman Interview
You know him as the CEO of OpenAI — but he's also an avid writer.
We spoke not once but twice about how Sam captures ideas, clarifies his thinking, edits his writing, decides what to work on, and uses ChatGPT.

@mtaibbi Craigslist gave up personals bc of sex worker ads. Feds shut down Silk Road for drugs. What are the correct boundaries? No holds barred for total free speech?
@WallStreetSilv The endpoint of this assertion is that when we achieve AGI, we should close all schools because they won't generate economic value. Why is production of economic value the only reason for doing anything? Like, why bother having kids?
2- MARS5 TTS, an open-source text-to-speech system by Camb AI, offers voice cloning with <5s audio, high prosodic control, and a two-stage model (AR 750M + NAR 450M). Probably the most advanced TTS open source model to date!

@EdWhelanEPPC Someone has to make policy decisions. The question is whether it's bureaucrats with domain knowledge or judges with knowledge about legal process. To me, this decision seems anti-expert , which is what a fascist state requires to make a dictator all powerful.
