@PrisonR4rmAct Inquiries are only beneficial if they bring change. Back logs in courts, innocent people held months on remand. IPP’s held unnecessarily. Lack of staff to keep safe. It’s a mess and @AlexChalkChelt doesn’t seem to be addressing it with any urgency. Renting cells abroad??
Significant piece of reporting, which should not be drowned out by the background noise today, features @DrAliceJEdwards UN Special Rapporteur on Torture speaking on the sentence Imprisonment for Public Protection under which people are still in prison.

10 Justice Secs since the #IPP sentence was abolished in 2012, yet nearly 3,000 people remain trapped in the British justice system serving ‘torture sentences’.
As @AlexChalkChelt wrote in 2007 its ‘toxic legacy endures’.

@johnycarr09@LloydSewing Murderers receive a mandatory life sentence, that’s different from an IPP. IPPs we’re supposed to be handed down to people that the judge deemed a serious risk to the public. But the sentence was given excessively, That’s why it was abolished.
Great day! Presented by David Kendall, an engrossing afternoon discussing #theoldmanandme with @stevenewark1 for the inmates at @HMPYOI_Portland. Then had the pleasure of listening to @shaunattwood talking of his good friend the Wild Man and their adventures out in Arizona.
Thanks Jason & Steve. Great to have you there and the insight you both brought to crime family & prison. I’m sure the library will have a lot of requests for your book.
