The Communist Party USA mourns the loss of Dolly Parton, a working class woman who was known not only for her remarkable musical contributions but also for who she was as a person.

Through her music and the way she carried herself through the world, she brought joy and encouragement to millions, while never losing sight of where she came from or the struggles of ordinary people. Her warmth, generosity, humor, and courage inspire us all.

Dolly devoted much of her wealth and influence to improving the lives of working people. She consistently spoke out against racism, sexism, and homophobia.

Through her Imagination Library, she helped put millions of books into the hands of children. She supported disaster relief, COVID-19 research, and education, and she even used royalties from Whitney Houston's recording of
"I Will Always Love You" to invest in a Black community in Nashville.

Dolly was never afraid to stand up for people who were left behind. Through her music, philanthropy, and public voice, she showed us that compassion and solidarity are powerful forces.

We share in the grief felt around the world at her passing.

The recent meeting between Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping of China seemed to offer a moment of genuine diplomacy, a welcome break from our government’s Cold War 2.0 on China. But instead of asking the real questions—for example, why Trump took an entourage of tech CEOs as part of a diplomatic—many anti-MAGA liberals are falling into a comfortable right-wing rut, accusing Trump of being soft on China. The Democratic members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, for example, issued a statement calling out the administration for being insufficiently confrontational on Taiwan, on Iran, and on China’s alleged “military aggression.” Do they really think they can beat MAGA by running to the right? And are they willing risk a world war to do it? Meanwhile, the White House continues to tighten the vise around the Cuban people with the sham indictment of former president Raúl Castro, all to the fawning chorus of the capitalist press. This week on GMR, Scott Hiley is joined by Krista Chan, Justine Medina, and Cameron Harrison (just back from a visit to China). HANDS OFF CASTRO! NO WAR ON CUBA! 🇨🇺

The Communist Party USA condemns the politically motivated charges brought against Raúl Castro as yet another example of the tyranny and hypocrisy by the United States. Using the facade of “justice” to address the downing of two planes that invaded Cuban airspace in 1996 to harass and intimidate the Cuban people — planes that were warned multiple times to halt and leave — does not fool anyone. This act of a sovereign people defending their airspace is not open to U.S. review. The sole purpose of these charges is to provide an excuse to pursue the decades-old regime change policy against socialist Cuba. 

The imperialist strategy of the “Trump Corollary” across the Western Hemisphere seeks to remove from power anyone the U.S. cannot control and take what it wants from any sovereign nation in the region. Attempting to criminalize the Cuban leadership while ignoring the violence and suffering carried out by U.S. imperialism reflects not a commitment to justice, but rather the desperate acts of a system in crisis trying to reclaim its lost global dominance. The same government that lectures the world about human rights has repeatedly engaged in military acts of aggression, CIA-backed coups, crippling trade blockades, and economic sanctions that have devastated and terrorized working people across the hemisphere and indeed the world.

The CPUSA understands that it is the people of Cuba alone who have the right to determine their destiny. We stand in unwavering solidarity with them and the Cuban Revolution. They stand as a beacon of hope for all peoples’ struggles around the world. We join with all progressive forces worldwide to demand Cuban self-determination, the immediate removal of Cuba off the fake U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism list, ending the blockade, and halting the spurious and politically motivated indictment of former President of Cuba, Raúl Castro.

We stand in solidarity with the Cuban people and reject efforts to demonize Cuba’s revolutionary socialist leadership while conveniently excusing the destructive consequences of U.S. imperialist policy. For generations, Cuba has faced economic blockade, isolation, and constant bullying simply for defending its right to sovereignty and building a socialist society where all people have the right to a dignified life.

The CPUSA calls on the progressive, peace, and anti-war movements to participate in regional peace movements, trade unions, and grassroots coalitions against the heightened threats of war against Cuba. 

The Cuban Revolution and the Cuban people are under attack by the United States; we must demand: Hands off Castro! No War on Cuba! Take Cuba off the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, and end the U.S. blockade!

The two delegations exchanged views on a wide array of issues affecting the U.S. and Japan, focusing on the fight against the far right, nuclear weapons, militarism and U.S. forces in Japan. Both delegations look forward to future cooperation on issues of mutual concern.
