Let us #PrayTogether that the mental health ministry be established throughout the Church, helping to overcome the stigma and discrimination of persons with mental illnesses. Be a part of this prayer: https://t.co/RQWBPajjtx #PrayerIntention@clicktopray_en
The classics are worth reading at any age, but they resonate in shocking ways as you get older. I didn’t really “get” Great Expectations until I’d suffered some pretty painful humiliations in my teens and twenties. Here in my late thirties I’ve found myself desperate for practical wisdom about how the world works and our purpose and place in it. And increasingly I gravitate to writers (such as Dante, Proust, Cao Xueqin, Jane Austen and George Eliot) who can offer that. When you reach middle age you find yourself occasionally waking up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night wondering if you’ve wasted your life, wondering how to be a good person. And when that happens, you’ll find that the classics bring solace and wisdom.
Just as Notre-Dame Cathedral was restored, so too is the Church in France being renewed. This is particularly noticeable in the enthusiasm of the young people and the increased number of baptisms.
I would like to share some thoughts on my recent #ApostolicJourney to #France with the motto “That the world may have life” (cf. Jn 6:51). God alone, through his grace, can restore the Church and renew humanity, and this is precisely what is occurring in Paris, Lourdes and Metz.
English has some weird quirks.
A number of words in English are NOUNS when you stress the FIRST syllable...
But VERBS when you stress the SECOND syllable.
-SUSpect/susPECT
-CONflict/conFLICT
-PROtest/proTEST
-CONvert/conVERT
Simple thing that improved my life: I often choose the slower option on purpose. Walk instead of driving. Stairs instead of escalator. Cook instead of ordering. Whatever. In a world that wants you to rush, the ultimate act of rebellion is slowing down. There’s a power in that.
Everybody think a comeback gotta be a new car, more money, new house or popping out looking good. Sometimes the comeback is getting YOU back. Sleeping good again,Laughing again, Not overthinking every damn thing, Not checking on people who hurt you! Sitting by yourself & actually
Kitap okumayı bıraktığınızda ilk kaybettiğiniz şey bilgi değil, zihninizin inceliğidir. Kelimeler azalır, düşünceler sıradanlaşır, hayal gücü daralır. İnsan fark etmeden kendi dünyasını küçültür. Okumak, zihni diri tutmanın yazılı olmayan kuralıdır.
I went back to actually reading aloud for 30minutes everyday because my verbal dexterity was diminishing! I was rushing through words, not finishing pronunciations plus had a terrible breathing technique when presenting! Glad to report that I have improved so much!
There's a certain type of Midwesterner that knows the value of the pallid marriage of purple and orange on a deathly silent winter night.
It is one of the purest forms of existence in the great North.
