@No1Gruff @jeremycorbyn @guardian He was a backbench MP at the time. You can easily look up his stance. He engaged with all sides, including those on the republican side and he consistently advocated for dialogue and a diplomatic approach, rather than a militaristic one.

A key part of that has been communicating with all sides in a conflict, including groups like the IRA, to bring about a resolution. It doesn't mean he endorses their actions, it's just a necessary part of the peace process.
