🚨Cristiano Ronaldo on his future after scoring in consecutive matches for Al Nassr following his controversy with Jorge Jesus:
🗣️ Cristiano Ronaldo:
“People keep asking me about my future, whether I’m happy, whether I want to continue and whether certain situations will change my plans. Honestly, I think people still don’t understand who I am.
I didn’t come this far to start thinking about stopping. I’m 41, yes, but when I look at myself in the mirror, I don’t see a player who is finished. I see a player who still has goals to achieve, records to break and trophies to win. I still wake up wanting to compete, and as long as I feel that hunger, why would I stop?
I’ve scored in two consecutive matches, and for me, that’s not something extraordinary. It’s my job. I expect myself to score. I expect myself to perform. If I play a match and don’t score, I’m disappointed because my standards are different from those of many other players.
Some people might think that at my age, I should be satisfied with everything I’ve achieved. Five Ballon d’Or awards, Champions League titles, international trophies, hundreds of goals yes, these are incredible achievements. But they belong to the past. I respect my past, but I don’t live in it.
I want more.
I want to win more trophies with Al Nassr. I want to score more goals. I want to keep competing at the highest level and show people that age doesn’t automatically decide what a player can achieve. I’m not here to make up the numbers or help younger players feel comfortable. I’m here because I believe I can still make the difference.
And about the situation with Jorge Jesus, people can talk about it as much as they want. In football, everyone has an opinion, and sometimes people make things bigger than they really are. My focus is on the pitch. I cannot control what everybody says, but I can control how I train, how I prepare and how I perform.
When I step onto that pitch, I don’t ask for special treatment because of my name. I expect to be judged by my performances, and I judge myself more harshly than anybody else could judge me.
Someone recently asked me, ‘Cristiano, when will you finally feel that you’ve done enough?’
I laughed because I honestly don’t know how to answer that question. [laughs]
When I scored my first professional goal, I wanted another one. When I won my first trophy, I wanted the next one. When I became the best goalscorer in one competition, I wanted to do it in another. This is how my mind works. I don’t know how to be satisfied for too long.
People call it ego. Maybe I have an ego. I believe in myself, I believe in my abilities, and I believe I can achieve things that other people consider impossible. If I didn’t have that belief, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
I respect every player, but I have never entered a competition thinking somebody deserves to win more than me. I want to be the best. I want my team to win, and I want to be the player who makes the difference when the pressure is highest.
At 41, I still get angry when I lose. I still get frustrated when I miss a chance. I still want the ball when the game is difficult because I believe I can change it. Do you think that mentality suddenly disappears because somebody says I’m getting old? Never.
My future? I will decide when the time comes. Not the newspapers, not the people on social media and not the people who have already decided that my career should be over. I know my body, I know my mentality and I know what I still have to offer.
I’m not chasing the past. I’m chasing the next record, the next trophy and the next moment that makes people say, ‘How is Cristiano Ronaldo still doing this?’
And if I can still score goals, compete and help my team win, then believe me, I’m not going anywhere just to make other people comfortable.
I didn’t spend my entire career trying to become the best just to spend my final years asking permission to continue.
