The correct punishment for Man City:
• Removed from the Premier League and EFL and placed in the highest non-league division willing to accept them.
• Stripped of every trophy won during the relevant period.
• Proceeds from inevitable player sales used first to compensate staff who lose their jobs, then clubs denied trophies, European places and league positions.
• The current ownership removed and banned from English football. If the allegations are proven, they clearly cannot meet any credible fit-and-proper ownership test.
Anything less would make a mockery of the rules.
We were so desperate for new ownership that we refused to listen to OGC Nice fans when they warned us about INEOS.
They told us INEOS were clueless.
They told us they didn’t care about football.
They warned us Sir Jim Ratcliffe would bring Dave Brailsford into the club despite his lack of football expertise.
They warned us about the fake promises.
They warned us the club would make random, clueless signings.
They warned us about the direction.
We ignored them.
Now we are watching their warnings play out in real time.
INEOS have:
• Appointed Omar Berrada, despite his long-standing history with City and the questions around his commitment to United.
• Put Jason Wilcox in a major football role despite serious questions about his experience at this level.
• Cut costs across the club, made staff redundant and even ended Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorial payments.
• Backed Erik ten Hag with a collection of questionable signings.
• Hired and then sacked a sporting director within months.
• Gone through multiple managers while still struggling to establish a clear footballing identity.
• Presided over a club that increasingly looks like it has no coherent direction.
And then there is the transfer window.
It’s not even that the business is bad.
There is barely any business to judge.
That might be the most damning part.
The OGC Nice fans were right.
We just didn’t want to hear it.
We were so desperate to believe that anyone replacing the Glazers had to be better that we stopped asking whether the new owners actually had the competence, ambition and footballing vision to run Manchester United.
And maybe that was the biggest mistake.
Because agreeing to become co-owners with the Glazers should have been a warning in itself.
We knew what the Glazers represented.
We knew the problems.
Then someone convinced us that this time would be different.
We wanted it to be different so badly that we mistook promises for a plan.
Years later, the biggest question is still the same:
What exactly is the plan?
Because Manchester United don’t look like a club executing a plan.
They look like a club still trying to find one.

Per @valuball (with which Kieran Maguire is involved) — how much can United spend under FFP rules?
I have made posts like this based on data from United’s accounts that I have gathered. But let’s evaluate it based on external sources.
Valuball estimates that United’s squad cost is 56%, which is 14% from the 70% threshold. Consequently — United could increase the cost of its squad with 14%/56%=25%. Ie the costs can be increased with a 4th.
What does that mean in terms of transfer spending? In pure yearly cost it’s £125m. Remember, the yearly cost for signing a player for 100m and paying him 200k a week is 30m. So United could afford more than 4 signings at £100m each paid 200k a week without breaching FFP.
Please note that this is in relation to United’s income in 24/25 ~ ie while the club was in the EL. In reality — the room for United to spend under FFP is even bigger in the new CL.
I have several times this summer window heard insiders, supposedly with sources within the club, refer to how United had to wait before the new financial year to make deals due to FFP etc etc etc.
I hope everyone understand how absurd such reports are.
So why doesn’t United spend more? It’s simple, our owners aren’t backing that spending. Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Villa’s owners are on a regular basis pushing 100s of millions a into those clubs. Our owners are not and we paying their private debt.

Winner announced Friday! 🙌🏼
Managers of other clubs are calling out for more players — and there is a lot of infighting among United fans if we should be happy with what we got or call out our owners for not supporting the club more.
I am fairly relaxed to be honest! Either Ineos, the Glazers, Berrada, Wilcox and Carrick know what they will be doing — and we will be fine. Or they don’t, and we will be — badly — exposed. Not 5th or 6th. More like 8-15th.
There is not cheating for a PL team that plays in both the PL and the CL. No short cuts.
And this time — I think United fans will act. There are no excuses. Ineos aren’t supposed to be greedy Americans. They are supposed to be fans of the club. They are telling us that the club has sufficient resources to compete. They are telling us that a title is coming this or next season.
After Carrick’s run, CL qualification, new managers for Liverpool and City — we have a unique opportunity to gain some ground on our rivals that we of course cannot just piss away. Forget about a title — fans see our rivals leaving us in the dust. Fans understand that we must qualify for the CL repeatedly.
There can’t be a living soul on this planet who is a United fan who would be OK with the club finishing like 12th next season and loosing even further ground on our rivals. There cannot be a living soul who is a United fan who would contemplate giving our current owners another chance if they fail this summer.
Because this time — there are no excuses whatsoever. If we can’t even finish top 5 under these perfect conditions, this club must get new owners and no game should be played in Old Trafford before that is achieved.
But this aren’t what we should hope for. We should hope for the club succeeding. And i am never counting United out. It can do that. Santos looks great and Tielemans is a fantastic player. There is no denying that Rashford on the pitch can be an important squad player for a good team, and hence help us if it works out off the pitch. Maybe 2-3 academy players take the step this season and contributes on the pitch. Amass. Lacey. Obi??
Since way to much is at stake and I of course don’t have much insight into all relevant aspects — I would have liked to see the club do a heck of a lot more than what it seems like it is intent on doing. But that doesn’t mean that the other way can’t work.
But if it don’t work, surely, we are all United in that this time, we will have had enough.
The legends at @TargetDarts gave me an extra goody bag this morning at the media day to give away to one of you lot, which includes a load of cool stuff! 👀
