Two big names from the de Blasio admin—former Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen and former Planning Chair Carl Weisbrod—just put out an incredible op-ed on the housing betrayal happening at Elizabeth Street Garden. 🧵
@KeithPowersNYC 👏who are the 21% that like sidewalk sheds? Thank you for your leadership on this. The impact on small businesses in NYC will be immeasurable.
@GoodGuyGuaranty same time — bricks-and-mortar retail, e-commerce, and wholesale import/distribution — which in hindsight proved to be impossibly hard to execute,” Bodkins wrote.
@GoodGuyGuaranty From the founder. Incredible honesty tbh. Very impressed.
“No one should consider this anything other than what it is: a failed venture-backed startup that grew too quickly, made mistakes, and wasn’t able to find capital fast enough to continue to build three businesses at the
Thibodeau on Evan Fournier's discontent:
"I have great respect for him. ...It's hard to argue with a 37-22 record (after Fournier was removed from the starting lineup) and a plus net rating."
@westsiderag Important to include a denominator when looking at a statistical analysis of availabilities. When you take the number of available stores and divide by the total number of stores, the availability rate on Broadway 59-86th Street is actually 12.3%, the lowest its been since 2019.
@TweetBenMax@ebottcher Maybe he didn't think it went far enough and wanted the outdoor dining to be year round? Giving him the benefit of the doubt because that's not really @ebottcher MO.
@MarketUrbanism This is a pretty smart compromise! Of course it’s not about where the money is going it’s about where it’s coming from (the pockets of Jersey residents who prefer to sit in traffic on Canal Street for 2 hours a day). But call Murphy’s bluff @GovKathyHochul !
@ryanryan_hi Would be interesting to see this data updated (it stopped tracking in 2020). Our statistics today show the lowest vacancy rates in major NYC markets since 2014. It is possible that COVID and the subsequent retail crisis might have changed a few landlords mentalities.
@GoodGuyGuaranty When they inevitably get kicked out, I expect they will be re-rented quickly with infrastructure (HVAC e.g.) brand new and in place. And I assume most savvy landlords will be holding on to huge security deposits given the questionable legality of the use.
