BLATTER’S CRITICISM OF INFANTINO OPENS CAN OF CORRUPTION FOR EX-FIFA BOSS.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has scrapped plans to create investment stakes in the World Cup after the council of European, Asian and American sporting associations kicked against the move.

Infantino made the announcement yesterday amidst mounting pressures, earning cheers from pundits who believed it is in FIFA’s best interest to listen to its member bodies.

Among the critics of Infantino was the former federation president, Sepp Blatter, who earlier called for a boycott of the just-concluded 23rd edition of the FIFA Men's World Cup jointly hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada over U.S President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Blatter, whose 17 years as FIFA president saw some of the most despicable corruption ever known to the game, openly expressed discomfort over Infantino’s cordial relationship with Trump.

The 90-year-old, who once declared: “I am clean” to the BBC, was indicted in a series of investigations involving a $150million bribery scandal, and a separate $2million bribe to ex-UEFA president, Michael Platini. Blatter would go on to serve a six-year ban leading to a forced resignation, and shameful exit.

While Infantino is in no way perfect at the job, Blatter’s moral pontification fuelled by an acrid disdain for president Trump is telling of a greedy gerontocrat widely known to set the stage for the politicization and commodification of the world’s most popular sport.

Blatter—corrupt as he is—has no right to criticise Infantino. That we can all agree.
