Any time a person dies it is tragic. No matter who they were, their family and friends are in pain, and celebrating someone’s death is not the right path. But at the same time, we have to be honest about who that person was and what they stood for.

Charlie Kirk was not a hero. He was not a unifier. He did not dedicate his life to lifting people up or building a fairer society. Almost everything he did was aimed at dividing people. He thrived on stirring anger and resentment, not on solving problems or bringing folks together. He made his career by pushing wedges deeper between communities, demonizing marginalized groups, and turning fear into applause lines.

Heroes leave behind a legacy of service, sacrifice, or inspiration. Charlie Kirk leaves behind a record of disinformation, culture wars, and rhetoric designed to pit neighbor against neighbor. He chose to make enemies out of people simply for existing differently, and he encouraged others to see them as threats instead of human beings. That is not courage and it is not leadership.

So while his death should not be celebrated, it also should not be rewritten as something noble. The truth is that he used his platform to spread division and hostility. He leaves behind a trail of damage rather than healing. That reality matters. It is possible to acknowledge the tragedy of a life lost while refusing to pretend that the life was lived as a force for good.
