I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve made this point, but please take this as a WARNING, and not merely an observation: Anti-social behavior—think about the guy blasting music from a speaker, talking loudly on speaker-phone, smoking inside the subway car, etc.—in public spaces is often engaged in ***_as a dare_***. The whole point is to provoke anger and annoyance in those around him, which serves two purposes, depending on the response he’s hoping for:

(1) If everyone bites their tongues, the antisocial asshole gets to tell himself he’s such a badass no one would dare speak up; or

(2) If someone confronts him, he finds his excuse to scratch a violent itch.

Understand that saying something to these people will often come with a real risk of violent confrontation.

Imagine if basketball games were played inside locked buildings without windows. The field goals and free throws were registered and counted by machines. The running score of the game was projected on the outside of the building. But it wasn't simultaneous with the game. The running score changed for days and even weeks after the contest was over. When at last there was a final score the fans cheered or slumped in despair.

How long would public interest and faith in such a sport last?

I spent a chunk of my early years around Mormons and they were in general exemplary people. Solid families, friendly and open. If I had one complaint it would be aggressive proselytizing - which even happened on the school bus. But that is also a healthy sign of confidence in their way of life.

Exact discussions of their theology strike me as beside the point when they frequently live more ‘Christian lives’ than men serving as Jesuit priests or leaders of prosperity gospel megachurches - which are basically a Sunday infomercial.

When my son was in high school in McKinney years ago, he told me of a new Black student who had moved into McKinney from Philadelphia and was in his Home Room. On his first day, the new kid put on a ball cap after Home Room and walked out. Hats were not allowed in school. The teacher followed and asked the kid to take off his hat. The response again was "F*** you!" and he kept walking The teacher followed and said, "You don't understand, we don't allow hats in this school, you need to remove it." The kid said "F*** you" again and kept walking.

Another teacher who also was a coach saw what was happening in the hall and got involved. It escalated into the new student chest-bumping into the coach and cursing him, too. A Resource Officer saw what was happening, slammed the kid into a locker and handcuffed him. He was arrested and sent to jail. He was expelled from school.

His father came in later that day to speak with the Vice Principal for the purpose of getting his son back into school. He was told that wasn't going to happen. The father became agitated and began yelling. Police were called and the father was also arrested and taken to jail.

I am friends with the brother of the Vice Principal. I saw him at a local concert and introduced myself. He knew my boys at his school and spoke well of them. I then asked him about the incident with the student who moved in from Philly. He verified what I was told was true and that kind of behavior is not tolerated. I said, "good man!"

My children all graduated from McKinney high schools at least 15 years ago. I was pleased with the education my kids received as all were admitted to and graduated from quality universities.

There were no racial issues and everyone got along very well. McKinney was a much smaller town then and kids of all races played sports, band, choir, etc together. There were no fights or racial issues. McKinney is an upscale suburb of Dallas.

Many things have changed with the huge influx of H1B visa Indians, Muslims, and Section 8 Ghetto Blacks that have moved into the area. Karmelo Anthony and his family are examples of this. I'm sure the schools have changed, too. Kids just didn't murder other kids here. North Dallas is not what it was 10 years ago because of these people. It is heartbreaking to watch.

It did not take the jury three hours to deliberate. They had 90 minutes for lunch, got situated and selected a foreperson. Then they probably took a vote and were unanimous and then just discussed it for a little bit to make sure no one had any reservations.
