IMPRESSION: pneumonia as suspected, but you won’t believe the incidental finding hiding below the diaphragm!
People are surprised to hear that sometimes doctors watch videos online before doing certain procedures to refresh their memory on the correct steps.
What they don’t know is sometimes it’s how we learned to do the procedure in the first place.
[1st day working in pediatrics]
me: do you have any medical problems?
7: I'm not sure
me: ever had surgery?
7: I don't know
me: are you on medications?
7: [confused] no, I'm on a hospital bed
(2/2) was quite alright albeit mild abdominal bloating
She had received L-asp that morning, so to better err on the side of caution, I order labs, give the child a pill (PPI)
Mother was inconsolable.
2:30 am: mother returns the pill. Child had passed gas, slept comfortably. FML
1:30 am on duty: Child with ALL- mother complains that her child has severe abdominal pain
I examine the child, she is fine, I reassure the mother
2:00 am- Mother runs up to me insists that her child is screaming with pain
I once again examine the child who.. (1/2)
