Thank you to Global Trust for the warm welcome and for including me on the panel at the African Alternative Asset Investment Roundtable (AAAIR) in Nigeria.
It was a pleasure to contribute, share experiences and hear different perspectives on housing finance and alternative assets in Africa.
I look forward to returning to Nigeria soon and continuing the dialogue as AAAIR develops.

A recent visit to Lagos, at the invitation of Global Trust, left me reflecting on Nigeria’s remarkable momentum — and the enormous opportunity in housing finance.
Perhaps the answer lies in developing African solutions for African markets, rather than simply importing models from elsewhere.

Twenty years ago Sonnie Babatunde Ayere and I worked on a transaction that helped shape South Africa’s mortgage finance industry.
Last week in Lagos, we picked up that conversation again exploring how lessons from SA could help unlock Nigeria’s housing finance potential.
I am looking forward to being part of the AAAIR Conference in Lagos tomorrow, 20 August 2026, where I will join fellow speakers Sonnie Babatunde Ayere, Kehinde Ogundimu and Suru Daniels for an important conversation about Africa’s future.

I do not see recovery coming to these sectors of the market until sentiment with regards to state of economy as a whole turns positive. #propertyinvestment#capetown

The strength of the property market in the “affordable sector“ is not limited to Cape Town alone, but instead can be regarded as a national trend. The middle and upper income sectors of the market remain far more stagnant.
