@BellaWallerstei The absolute figure is meaningless without some kind of comparison. As a % of GDP it’s been quite stable for many years. Too high you might think but not increasing.
@BellaWallerstei You mention welfare regularly as if it’s the “one” thing that to blame for all the current mess. The actual fact is that it hasn’t changed for many years, too high you may think buts simply not true to pretend it’s out of control.
@bananagirl_kb@ChrisGPackham You cant have it both ways. The main reason GDP went up post 2020 was the huge increase in immigration. So yes GDP went up (due to immigration) but GDP per capita went down as growth did not keep up with the rise in population.
@Artemisfornow Yes, on the other hand if AI ends up super boosting productivity and profit margins then maybe we wont need young people working to support the boomers, the young remain unemployed but there is enough money to support both them as well as the pensioners?
