@davidbewart As someone who has been to America too many times - this is just a reminder that the USA we see on TV and movies is a long way from the racist, greedy, uneducated, ignorant reality
@PhillipAdams_1 Thinking about this George Carlin quote today -
“Think about how stupid the average American is…
and then remember that half of them are more stupid than that”
@Peter_Fitz Thinking about this George Carlin quote today -

and then remember that half of them are more stupid than that”
@lesstenny Early in my career a trip to the USA was exciting - the world’s greatest economy, the best at everything, blah blah blah. But the reality is systemic racism and prejudice for anyone with eyes open to see. A USA trip soon became a chore, and something to avoid if possible
@SquigglyRick Thanks @SquigglyRick . You stand well above the pack when it comes to reporting fairly and honestly and can always be counted on for empathy and an intelligent assessment. I wish there were more like you.
@Will_Tanner_1 Thanks @Will_Tanner_1 . We visited Zimbabwe for the first time this year and were struck by the poverty and helplessness of a once rich country. Especially when compared to their much richer neighbour Botswana, a country that had a lot less going for it in terms of resources
@JaneCaro I’ve been refused at that taxi rank and I’m a bright white Anglo. Every few weeks when I land in Perth late at night after a 5 hour flight and just need a short ride to a hotel in the city ($30) I get knocked back because they want a bigger fare.
It’s an argument EVERY TIME.
