Welcome to the Stop SIM allies twitter account! 💙
We can be reached by DM or at [email protected] ✊
We hope to eradicate criminalisation and punitive practice in mental health care.
We owe a debt to the Stop SIM Coalition who started this work 🙏
Please read the below from @StopOxevision and consider signing. Very similar issues highlighted in terms of use of NHS 'Innovation' funding as with SIM ⬇️
Open letter on the use of Oxevision in patient settings: read and sign the petition to stop the rollout of Oxevision and invasive video surveillance in psychiatric hospitals

@asifamhp@StopSIMMH if that's a common level of understanding of something where publicly available information gives clear guidance, our confidence in advice about the impact of prosecution on vulnerable people wouldn't be high...
@asifamhp@StopSIMMH we wonder also if prosecutors took any advice from MH services and if so what that was...
a common understanding of assessing capacity to chose to commit crime appears to be 'ask the person what the consequences would be, and if they know, they have capacity in that context'
I got some/many questions & would #AMHPrant into the void about the decision to prosecute & criminalise distress/mental illness/mental disorder… @StopSIMMH@stopSIMallies#StopSIM
I am wondering about the ubiquitous S.136 & stuff & things…
I’ve added a column for patient and staff reports so if you have recently been on a ward/ work on a ward which does or doesn’t have oxevision / care protect you can add a comment to add these details to help build collective mad knowledge and resistance to oppressive surveillance
Happy Monday to all our followers! Please follow @StopOxevision and stay tuned for more content about how this system is impacting on people using mental health services 🆘⬇️
@Journo_Lydia @StopSIMMH hey Lydia, I think we have received this and talked about it as a team - maybe we did the thing where we spoke about replying then didn't reply! so sorry - will follow up.
Stigma in particular is not a helpful word for this - reads like there are some outdated attitudes that just need to be shed (mostly by patients and their loved ones) and then everything will be OK.
Practices like SIM tell us the issue is far bigger than that.
Let's stop talking about the stigma and discrimination towards anyone labelled with pd and its various euphemisms. Call it out for what it is - abuse.
Zero Tolerance
Stop tolerating abuse of patients. You have ALL witnessed it or perpetrated it.
We are really troubled by Oxevision and will be meeting this week to decide how to take this forward.
Plenty of useful commentary on this thread to understand this and the likely impact on patients ⬇️
happy Friday to everyone who wants to eradicate discrimination and criminalisation in healthcare 💙🙏
we've had a quiet week! what's happened while we've been away?
@NellAitch this is one of the reasons we wanted to carry on the work - to pick up the baton in some situations where survivors are basically exhausted from banging heads on brick walls
Happy Friday to everyone except those who believe that threat of criminal sanctions should be part of healthcare 😎💙
It's a shame that we formed so soon before #BIGSPD23 - there are issues we'd want to raise about the use of criminalisation to harm this patient population
@lizanelly1 thanks for correcting all positive wishes to them and it's a very upsetting state of affairs when people don't feel safe with health services
Happy Sunday all - if you are in the UK, summer is definitely here 🌄😎🧴
As a team we are looking for info on where SIM or SIM-like schemes continue to operate - eg which Trusts.
This is to build a picture and support further enquiries with NHS Trusts, police forces and CQC
