HMRC are ruining lives by introducing a retrospective tax to innocent law abiding citizens going back 20 years!!! #STOPtheLoanCharge#HMRCHumanCost#LCAG
Please stop ignoring this reality @RishiSunak@Jesse_Norman@JimHarraHMRC. It’s simply not possible for HMRC to properly & fairly conclude settlements & you know this is the case. Please do the right thing, announce a #LoanChargeDelay.
Now 115 Parliamentarians have signed the open letter to the Chancellor @RishiSunak calling for an essential #LoanChargeDelay.
#HMRC can’t conclude settlements & are clearly discriminating against some people facing the #LoanCharge.

Congratulations to @EdwardJDavey on his election as leader of Lib Dems! . As Co-Chair of #LoanCharge APPG Sir Ed Davey has been instrumental in progress so far in fight against this retrospective tax.
Congratulations #LoanChargeAPPG Co-Chair @EdwardJDavey on being elected Leader of the Liberal Democrats. Ed has shown great leadership on the #LoanChargeScandal since the formation of the APPG, thank you Ed.
The Loan Charge All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) has written to Chancellor Rishi Sunak, calling for ministers and HMRC to offer a “genuine and reasonable” settlement opportunity for those who used loan schemes.
Tax professionals who are continuing to market loan schemes as "perfectly legal" simply cannot be doing that in good faith. That is why we have called on the City of London Police to investigate disguised remuneration schemes for fraud - https://t.co/ewwQy1AX99
The #loancharge settlement proposals could save firms on the brink of collapse, according to @JonCruddas_1, a member of @loanchargeAPPG. He has written to the Chancellor urging him to act. #LoanCharge

Am I the only person who just isn't terribly bothered? Not quite as significant a story, I would suggest, as #LoanCharge or #mortgageprisoners, real issues affecting people in distress.
Now @DavidDavisMP is introducing #NC31 in the #FinanceBill including pointing out that the Government have issued a misleading briefing. Says that the principle of innocent until proven guilty must be restored in the tax system.
Been lobbying Speaker’s Office for a vote on NC31 on #LoanCharge
They now agreed that if SNP don’t push their amendment, we can get a vote on loan charge
Trying every trick in the book to get a vote on the #LoanChargeScandal
Alarmed at how Parliament is preventing this vote
There MUST be a vote on #NC31 when it has so much support AND involving a policy that is KNOWN to have caused 7 suicides.
The @HouseofCommons must not fail people & democracy this evening. The #LoanChargeScandal must be dealt with & NOW as it the last chance before September.
Mr Hammond has been misled by HMRC briefing. As he was told, NC31 follows rather than sets precedent.
As he later admits "maybe [he is] wrong". He is wrong.
Some confusion in the debate (presumably caused by the misleading briefing). NC31 does not & cannot set any precedent as all it does is RESTORE basic taxpayers’ rights & puts the situation BACK where it was. It’s the #LoanCharge that set a precedent & a dangerous one!
An excellent summary by @DavidDavisMP with particularly pertinent interjections questioning why, as having the largest cross-party support, #NC31 cannot be voted upon. It must be offered the opportunity for vote.
Great to hear @alisonthewliss confirm that @theSNP support & would vote for #NC31 to restore basic taxpayers’ rights to those who never evaded tax & make the #LoanCharge only apply to deliberate tax evasion.
Great points from @EdwardJDavey and @CrispinBlunt asking why @DavidDavisMP’s widely supported cross-party amendment #NC31 won’t be pushed to a vote by @UKLabour.
Why would they block this change which simply restores taxpayers rights?
Please 🙏 DO THE RIGHT THING!
