1/6 We started Stop the Manels with an intention to drive gender representation in the tech industry, starting with conferences and events. Reports say that, overall only 20% of speakers at tech events are women. Gender gap is a real problem!

@knowlesm @GenderAvenger @ManelWatchAU @Ruth_MallorsRay This is wrong. We don't have to look at the industry or a larger sample set to conclude that. This panel is a #manel and they could have done better. It's high time we stop encouraging excuses and biases.

This is a huge NO. Organizers ought to be more responsible. If you see a pattern in the kind of people you're inviting (all male, all seniors), do you think it's time to revisit your criteria? Ask for suggestions if you think there are no women you can invite. There are plenty!
