Two of the gospels don’t even discuss it, Matthew mentions it happened in Bethlehem, Luke gives more backstory and also reports it as Bethlehem. No contradiction.

@RachelCoyleOhio @JackBMontgomery Egypt had been a province of the Roman Empire for over 30 years by the time Jesus was born. They weren’t illegally crossing any borders or living anywhere illegally. They also only lived in Egypt for about 2 years and returned to Israel as soon as it was safe.
