💻 Builder. Ever curious. Create things. Share what I learn. Explore the world. Love. Not necessarily in that order.

ZFS deserves a museum, so I had one built.
Uberblok: 11 rooms (copy-on-write, the uberblock, RAID-Z, the ARC, the ZIL…), each animating one idea next to the real OpenZFS code that does it.
Built by Algotitan. Human set the brief and the bar.

Every gauge reads the model: 4 photons come out at ~1 kHz, and the 6-photon rate lands close to what Quandela’s Ascella paper measured. A script rechecks every number.

Built with Claude Code. It joins Spindl, the hard drive, in Exploded.

I wanted to see what’s inside a photonic quantum computer. Here's one in 3D in the browser, real numbers included.

It’s mostly lasers, fibre loops and detectors at 2.5 K. The plumbing I get. The physics, still working on it. 🙂

Built with Claude Code (Claude Opus 5.5) and the teardown skill. A script recomputes every figure against the brief before each build.

This skill is really powerful, and I think we should pool what it produces into a kind of encyclopedia. There’s something to be done on that front...

A 3.5" 7,200 rpm hard drive in the browser. Every gauge reads the model that moves the parts: 15 m/s under the head at the inner edge, 35 m/s at the outer one, a seek drawn live, a head flying 3 nm above the platter.

Weekend PoC: Meet J-E-F-E 🤖 I put an Android phone on a Thymio II robot: on-device face detection (ML Kit), whisper.cpp ears, local reflexes in 0.5 s, an LLM brain for the rest, and a bandit that learned the best 2.4 s pivot to escape corners. Plus a SpaceX-style control tower. 🤖

Live telemetry on my desktop, memory in Obsidian. It's starting to learn its own routes. And it says hi when it sees me. And it has a SpaceX-style control tower 👇

What crossed my radar this week:

· An ESP32-S3 that turns any USB printer into an AirPrint printer
· Claude Code goes multiplayer
· Solar quietly overtaking nuclear
· An open-source voice assistant on an ESP32 for Hermes
· Lightpanda (headless browser for agents)

Every effect has optimisation steps with their cost, the code of two languages side by side, and the full source a click away.

How do you draw a plasma in SQL? In Perl? In hand-written x86 assembly?

Babeltro: 9 classic demoscene effects in 13 languages, running live in your browser. Every single one draws exactly the same pixels.

The fun part is making them agree to the bit. SQLite only has doubles, so float32 rounding is emulated in SQL (Veltkamp's split). Wasm has no sin(), so the hand-written port builds its sine table itself. Perl rounds with pack 'f'.

Cams come from Caltrans, DelDOT, Fintraffic and YouTube live streams: about 800 in 41 regions, rebuilt every day.

In Android's Canvas, the globe's land dots alone took 28 ms a frame. In OpenGL ES a full frame takes ~3 ms: 60 fps on the Shield.

Turn on the TV, grab the remote, and travel. 📺

Lukarne, a free Android TV app: spin a night-and-day globe, dive into a region, get a wall of live webcams.

Built with agents, tested on Nvidia Shield.

Install takes about 2 minutes: get the Downloader app on the TV, allow it to install apps, then type

https://t.co/ezRABCsBYR

It's a sideload, not a Play Store app. New versions are announced in the app; it never downloads or installs an update by itself.

Gave a Redmi 9A and a 2012 Galaxy Tab 2 a second life with Claude Code.
Tablet free RAM: 21 → 234 MB. Phone services: 103 → 31.
It’s now faster than when it was new.
What did you debloat this weekend?

Pull the plug mid-write. Flip a bit on one side of a mirror and watch it heal. Every figure runs a model of the OpenZFS code it shows.

The bar: one frozen commit (zfs-2.4.4), 116 code excerpts checked byte for byte by CI, 43 history facts, each with a source.

Under the hood: ESP32 + LVGL 8.3, one UI for the watch and a macOS simulator. Network tools (ping, traceroute, LAN scan, Wi-Fi analyzer) in plain C: same code on the wrist and on the Mac. iPhone notifs over ANCS. MIT.

Kronograf: an open-source firmware for the LilyGO T-Watch 2020. Aviator chronograph, Back to the Future time circuits, iPhone notifications, and a network toolbox on the wrist.

Built entirely with Opus 5.5. Human drove the architecture and validated every stage on the real watch. The design decisions and hardware blockers are logged in the repo.
