A Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) tornado watch has been issued for portions of eastern Mississippi into the northwestern half of Alabama, far northwest Georgia, and far southern Tennessee until 8PM CDT/9PM EDT. Long-track, strong to violent tornadoes are possible.
Dangerous tornado day possible in/near the magenta, red & orange areas.
These storms will be moving near highway speeds. If you are in the path of one, or in a warning, you won’t have time to waste. Until then, stay very close to sturdy shelter today.

🚨 DANGEROUS SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK TODAY 🚨
2:17 AM | The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the severe potential for today to a "High Risk" for the NW half of our area, and keeps a "Moderate Risk" for the rest of northern Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee. #HUNwx (1/4)
There is a reason “intense” was used over the word “violent” last week. As eluded to here our words regarding tornado intensity are chosen very carefully and reviewed by no less than 2 other people before a product is issued.
⚠️Numerous severe storms are expected to develop across the area Thursday afternoon/evening, with periods of heavy rainfall/flooding possible throughout the day!
📻 📱 Have multiple reliable ways to receive warnings.
🏠 Know where to go if a warning is issued for your location.
[1pm] Curious why we didn't see many tornadoes across the northern part of AL on March 17th? Here is part of the reason why:
1️⃣ Rained all day
2️⃣ Temps stayed cool in the lower 60s
3️⃣ Capping inversion in place

4:02 PM | With mostly clear skies and northerly winds, today has been an excellent day for prescribed burning across Alabama and Mississippi. We can see lots of smoke plumes from the fires on satellite this afternoon, including at Bankhead NF and Little Canyon NP. #FireWeather
February was snowy for Huntsville and Muscle Shoals with precipitation finishing above normal. Temperatures were a roller coaster, with some record lows and highs set, but overall temperatures certainly averaged below normal. See more info in the attached graphic. #HUNwx
