Recently, we caught up with Hugh Brunton from the beautiful town of Arbroath in Scotland to hear about his experience with the latest VARITRON 470 this year.
Here’s what Hugh had to say.....

Things are developing nicely in our main crop variety plots at Caythorpe. In 4 weeks time these will all be desiccated and then we’ll start on our extensive yield, quality and sensory assessments 🌱🥔 @BranstonSeed@Branston
@callmeloop every time I listen to Know me better (acoustic), it gives me shivers. My favourite track of all time. I wanna say ‘thanks’ for doing this and please, release more acoustic. Your raw voice and piano work so bloody well 👏🏼
We were out in Yorkshire today inspecting our Lucera seed crop. Grown on the Wolds for the first time and looking superb both in canopy vigour and tuber health. Digging at 40mm with 20 tubers/plant! 🥔🌿@Branston#Tesco@BranstonSeed#Lucera
In Gloucestershire yesterday with Phil Nichols, looking at seed crops destined for #Branston growers. This is a nice crop of Georgina grown for Tesco Finest whites #Georginapotato#Branstonseed#Tescofinest
A heart-breaking moment saved in an SS picture of deportations of Hungarian Jews at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. It was taken 79 years ago, most likely in late May 1944.
A little child found a dandelion in the grass and is handing it or showing it to an older boy. All the people in this picture were waiting to be killed in gas chamber. They were murdered some time later.
Please RT this unique document.
@certis_belchim In Lincolnshire they are known as ‘lawn-wreckers’. They do so much damage, with the grubs persisting for 3 years chomping away on grass roots. I’m keeping my lawn longer throughout May to discourage adults from laying their eggs
Last week saw 4 of us head up to SASA for the Growing Crop Classification Training Course organised by BPTA
The SASA plots are a great facility for learning varietal & disease identification. The course is definitely recommended to anyone working with seed potatoes

@DHSCgovuk I would like to ask why palliative and end of life care in UK hospices is funded by charities and donations? No one would dream of running a maternity ward on voluntary contributions, so what makes the end of our lives so different 🫤#Hospice#PalliativeCare#NHS
Today is #WorldBeeDay…lets talk flowers!
This year we are sowing a pollinator mix from @Kingscrops around our seed crops. We hope to see an increase in pollinators along with natural aphid predators to aid virus control throughout the growing season.
