You can't run a system with millions of variable consumption and generation and storage devices the way you ran it when you had 150 fossil fuel generators and a handful of nukes.
It's not the new technology (wind, solar, batteries, EVs) that's the issue - it's the total failure to change the way we manage the system.
This is why locational wholesale market (which is automatically dramatically more flexible) was so powerful - and is increasingly used in the OECD. We need decentralised signals so the system self-optimises.
Octopus already processes 300,000 data points a second to do this for the many GW we control - but the brute force of the main system management just doesn't have this granularity.
It is increasingly urgent to reform our electricity system. These control room issues, the £50m spent balancing the system in a single day, the £3bn a year on curtailment, the prospect of £7-9bn a year of curtailment by 2029/2030.
It's all avoidable but not with the tools of yesterday
#ProjectNewZealand Day 1-2: 50km + 42km. Safe to say the trail has been dishing out some early lessons.
Turns out, too much time out after Africa didn’t do me any favours, just makes the first few days back an absolute slog.
Legs are pure soggy weetabix. The wind from that beach section nearly sent me into orbit. Right glute is tighter than Ryanair’s baggage allowance.
But that’s the game. Every adventure starts with a shock to the system. The body complains, the mind wobbles, and for a moment, I wonder why I didn’t just pick a nice little hobby like table tennis.
Then I remember, this is exactly what I came for. To take on the adventure, the unknown, to soak in those little moments of beauty in between the suffering.
The trail ahead is long, but the only way is forward. One foot in front of the other.
WARNING: Have you started to notice "pay by bank app" options at online check-outs. If so it's quicker, it's easier but be aware there's LITTLE PROTECTION.
It's on the likes of Just Eat and Ryanair. You don't give card details, just pick your bank, and log into the app (via biometrics) then its done.
Yet ultimately its just a bank transfer, which means you don't get the same refund rights like chargeback or Section 75 if things go wrong that you do when you pay by card. So for small things its no biggie, but beware with big important transactions.
More coming on MSE soon...

@strategiwendy I would ring the business line and say you not had a collection or go to delivery office it been collected from and ask what going on as I had to do both. it’s very annoying as they don’t have any communication to you say why they not collecting.
