Kristu wakamuka! Chokwadi amuka! Christ is Risen! Following the historic ordination of Deaconess Angelic Molen reviving the ancient female diaconate, Metropolitan Seraphim of Zimbabwe performed the service elevating Deaconess Angelic to Archdeaconess on May 4, 2024. Axia!
“One of the most important fields of work of the deaconess was the exercise of the works of love…visiting sisters of the sick, the ‘grieving’ and poor women…[visiting] the imprisoned Christians, bringing them the offering.” -Metropolitan Serafim https://t.co/8drwKmKD22
“At first I was nervous about going into the altar, but when Metropolitan Serafim blessed me to enter the altar as part of my preparation this week, those feelings went away and I felt comfortable. I am ready.” Deaconess Angelic stated. https://t.co/8drwKmKD22
Deaconess Angelic was ordained in the Byzantine rite. The only changes made during the service were the pronouns used (she/her) and adding Saint Phoebe to the prayers. Following the ordination, Deaconess Angelic served communion to the entire congregation.
“Archbishop Elpidophoros gave his blessing to continue to involve girls and women in liturgical processions and work to expand the presence and visibility of women in the church.” https://t.co/w6VhEklKHe
