seeing the ai upscaled picture of mary's still life at the very end of the movie circulating around and thinking about the horror of how similar the backrooms and ai are in how they both operate like failing memories & misremembering details.

i saw the movie last night & these pics are ai upscaled which is (to me) another layer of the horror of the backrooms. it misremembers, it forgets details. i remember how the still life version of mary looks with her disfigured face, but the ai upscale can't. like the backrooms.

it's so interesting and fun that the hobbytown in oshkosh where the original backrooms pic was taken literally used to be a furniture store before it was redone

i love liminal spaces, i love existing in the "in-between," transitory states of being, empty & abandoned hallways, malls, hotels, airports, buildings, stairwells. getting lost in nostalgia. ephemerality that seemingly lasts too long.
