I guess you are expecting the Fed to raise rates over time. A lot depends on AI and its impact on productivity, inflation, etc. perhaps in the s/t we will see higher inflation due to data center demand= energy demand, plus tariffs plus reshoring. But for yields to stay higher, you must believe that the Fed will raise rates over time due to rising inflation.
Is that your call?
Imagine the economic impact of a surplus. That means the government is collecting more in taxes than it is spending into the economy. Effectively, draining money from the system.
Less money in the system has economic consequences.
“Paying off the debt” implies removing all the money from the system.
Would that create a good outcome? Asking for a friend.
Why issue debt i.e. “borrow” if you issue your own currency?
If the treasury issues a bond then another branch of government - BOJ - buys it, from the standpoint of the non-government- it doesn’t exist.
No harm, no foul.
If anything, the interest the non-government would have earned (pension fund) is denied.
The Atlantic’s attempt to smear Elon Musk with their headline “The Decline and Fall of Elon Musk” is a shameful display of bias from a publication that’s lost all credibility. I’ve fixed their headline to reflect the truth: “The Rise and Triumph of Elon Musk.” This visionary genius deserves not scorn but gratitude from America and the world for his unparalleled contributions to humanity. The Atlantic’s bitter narrative can’t erase the fact that @ElonMusk is a once-in-a-lifetime figure whose work has reshaped industries and lifted the United States to new heights.
Musk’s relentless drive at Tesla, SpaceX, and X has revolutionized electric vehicles, space exploration, and free speech, creating jobs and inspiring millions. His bold stint at the Department of Government Efficiency, aiming to save taxpayers trillions, showed his willingness to tackle Washington’s bloated bureaucracy head-on. Despite resistance from entrenched elites, he identified $170 billion in savings and pushed for accountability in a federal system crippled by years of waste. The Atlantic mocks these efforts, but Americans see through their agenda. Musk’s work laid a foundation for a leaner government, a gift to every taxpayer.
Unlike other billionaires chasing yachts and mansions, Musk owns no such luxuries. His life is his work, his vision, his legacy. He pours his wealth into advancing humanity, from colonizing Mars to building sustainable energy solutions. This selflessness sets him apart, making him not just admirable but invaluable. While The Atlantic peddles gossip and half-truths, Musk builds the future, undeterred by critics who cling to the status quo.
The world owes Musk thanks for his courage to challenge norms and his genius in solving problems others deem impossible. In the U.S., his companies have bolstered the economy and restored national pride in innovation. The Atlantic’s hit piece is a desperate attempt to dim his light, but it only underscores their irrelevance. Conservatives and patriots recognize Musk as a hero who aligns with President Trump’s mission to make America great again.
Let’s celebrate Musk’s triumphs and reject the left’s petty attacks. His legacy is a testament to what one man can achieve with vision and grit. America and humanity are better for it, and history will remember him as a titan who dared to dream big. The Atlantic can keep their sour headlines; the truth shines brighter.
@KobeissiLetter A surplus means the government is taxing more than it is spending. Effectively removing dollars from the system.
Be careful what you wish for.
