Yesterday, @ertofficial_ reported from Imbros on how the Ecumenical Patriarchate helped keep alive the possibility of return — enabling island inhabitants, despite enormous difficulties, to reconnect with their homes, churches and communities.
Similar examples exist in Southern Albania and even within Cyprus itself through the Maronite Church. The Church of Cyprus too should be firmly in the reunification camp. "Blessed are the peacemakers."

Having lived in Belfast, I have seen how Northern Ireland as a whole transformed through peace. The Good Friday/ Belfast agreement delivered extraordinary gains overall yet working-class areas mostly loyalist communities felt left behind by the peace dividend. When local communities experience neglect, the costs return years later to undo progress. From my interview in @ertofficial_ yesterday.

Cyprus enters a decisive diplomatic window before 2027 elections narrow the space again. President Christodoulides faces three choices:
Rupture. Chess. Settlement
Read the three options and my proposal for a mixed-methods summit to move beyond recycling the deadlock.

We’re moving from #CaliforniaCarnegies to #ColoradoCarnegies!
The amazing Denver public library was a lengthy project - so much that Carnegie missed the grand opening because they were still debating the fittings and shelving…
Now a civic building (events, weddings etc.)
Conversations on peacebuilding, mediation and the future of international cooperation continue in New York. A great day with John McGarry and colleagues— always inspiring to exchange ideas at the UN.
The wonderful South Pasadena Carnegie #3 in our series of #CaliforniaCarnegies - elegant architecture, fine statuary, a huge fig tree for shade and big bins for kids to return books.
The first of our #CaliforniaCarnegies is found in Santa Barbara, a fine public library with many decorative features; helpful and informative staff eager to help - and learn about their benefactor.
Some lovely art too as well as archives, books and music.
The elegant Pembroke Carnegie Library graces South Dublin by the canal on Anglesea Road by the RDS.
Embassy quarter fuels frequent use.
The 1916 Defence of the Realm Act had prohibited buildings of over £500, so it took till 1925 to win relief!
#23 in our #IrishCarnegies
English version of my article —diaspora should have a seat at the table—in @politis_point and key takeaways ahead of the @cyprusdiaspora Forum this coming Friday.
Evidence challenges old assumptions:
• diaspora size is often overstated
• preferences largely mirror homeland views
• electoral institutions can manage participation
The real question is not whether—but how Cypriot diasporas should be included in elections and a future peace referendum.

In South Africa (1992), a referendum enabled negotiations. In Cyprus (2004), a referendum brought peace talks to an end.
You can read how the two differ—in design, leadership, and outcomes—here:

Cypriot reunification is closer than we think but process design is the key.
Grateful to see most thoughtful engagement with my @politis_news article debating the @CPDCCYPRUS@apofasirinis joint declaration.
Pressing goal after a difficult week for all Cypriots: re-designing the architecture of incentives and commitments that can make next round of @UN_CYPRUS talks credible and effective.
Many thanks to @aparaschos for the serious discussion on moving beyond declarations to distinctive strategy.
