I’m constantly amazed by the conviction Labor leaders have in the stupidity of the electorate. That they can just make stuff up or blatantly lie, and assume they will be believed 🤷♂️
@EnergyWrapAU My understanding is Bellevue elected to pay ~30% more per kWh for this energy solution vs other options, and that's excluding a pre-payment of 26,413,768 shares, which was equivalent to $36 million at the time of issuance. https://t.co/5VReBflN9W
Government greed on tobacco excise is sending tens of billions into the hands of criminals while damaging Australian small businesses.
This is just one story of how this black market is affecting small business in regional towns.
The Australia Institute, Greens, ACOSS, ACTU, Saul Eslake, Labor for Housing, Alan Kohler, Everybodys Home, and many others claimed the 1999 tax changes turbocharged house prices.
They should now be predicting a reversal.
This is a test of their credibility they will likely fail.
If we could shrink Federal Government to the share of GDP that it was 20 years ago we could save $100 Billion a year.
Obviously one can argue at the margins here but the point is a pretty clear one.
This doesn’t include State Governments, which I suspect in some cases (Victoria) are even worse in terms of expansion.
We need a purge of government.
Hey @JEChalmers - finally, I have found someone to explain your budget to solve the housing crisis in plain English!
And by the way - this explanation is not a lie!
@LofayPeter
"According to the Labor estimate, prepared using the Parliamentary Budget Office’s “small model of Australian representative taxpayers” (SMART) tool, the true cost of Taylor’s pledge...is $35b over four years, rather than the $22.5b estimate"

Australia is a country where if you win $500k on an 8 leg multi on SportsBet you won't have to pay any tax, but if you sell your business for $500k you'll have to give the government half.
What are we incentivising here?
How fucking retarded do you have to be to run your country this way?
"The booming illicit tobacco market has wiped $6 billion from the federal budget bottom line in just five months and revenue from tobacco excise is now forecast to plummet to just over $2 billion a year by 2030." - AFR
And then...
"The government is now spending hundreds of millions of dollars on dealing with the fallout, including $14 million in the budget to boost the ability of states to disrupt the illicit tobacco and e-cigarette markets."
Favourite budget factoid.
While the rest of the nation gets hit with higher capital gains tax, there’s a special carve-out for foreign investors in renewable energy.
So they can flip assets that get underwritten by the Capacity Investment Scheme.

While Australia's government poisons the well for start up businesses, how's this from social democracy Finland, just last month:
"Finland competes with other countries for the same international talent, and a competitive option taxation model is one of the key factors influencing where growth companies are founded and where they choose to grow."
