To imply no adult under the age of 58 has worked in a functioning economy is preposterous.

I wasn’t born into a basket case. When I was born this country had falling energy prices, 4% economic growth, a booming jobs market, entrepreneurialism in spades, a resurgent capital city, a new prosperity. We were on track for a budget surplus.

We had more or less continuous improvement from the early 80s through to the end of the 2000s.

No politician wants to accept the truth: that things broke in 2008, because that’s embarrassing for both Labour (under whose watch it happened) and the Tories (who failed to get us back up to trend).

That way simplifies the system (less cost), employees keep more of their money & less blocker to employment whilst not costing as much.

1. Transfer the tens of billions earmarked for net zero to defence and supply chain resilience, to create a major industrial/defence sector, thereby creating skilled jobs in UK, rather than China (as net zero does)
2. Radical tough love welfare reform to get 1m people of working age into work, thereby cutting the welfare bill and increasing the tax base. Coupled with massive expansion of German-class STEM skill apprenticeships.
3. Radical reform of planning laws to stop nimbys/greens from thwarting every major infrastructure development. Put judges/courts in their place when it comes to such matters.
4. Put rocket boosters under high-speed rail link between Leeds-Manchester-Liverpool. Brook no opposition/delay.
5. Unleash North Sea oil/gas + slash energy bills by removing all green levies. New breed of gas-fired and smaller nuke generating stations.
Much more to suggest. But this should be good for starters.

The most dangerous part of this proposal isn’t the headline 2% rate or the £10m threshold – it’s the precedent that the state can annually skim a fixed percentage of what you already own, purely because you’re deemed too successful.

A future Chancellor facing another hole in the public finances won’t see a moral line in the sand; they’ll see a dial they can turn from 2% to 3%, from £10m down to £5m, from 2,000 people to tens of thousands of professionals with decent pensions and homes.

You don’t defend working‑ and middle‑class prosperity by cheering on new tools for the state to confiscate capital – you defend it by insisting the government lives within its means, reforms broken systems and stops using a tiny group as a test‑bed for powers that will eventually hit everyone else.

Mr Burnham criticises selling UK utilities to foreign states and companies. I agree. I helped Margaret Thatcher put in Golden shares to prevent this. It was the Labour government after 1997 that wrongly cancelled these protections to please the EU.

Margaret Thatcher inspired me to start my own business. I was a paraplegic, living on benefits. I started my own graphic design business in 89 and earned more than I ever dreamed as a kid of a single parent living on a council estate who went to a crap comprehensive.

Burnham wants to blame Thatcher for our ills, he needs to go back to the 70's, Callaghan, beer and sarnies in No10 with the unions, rocketing inflation, cap in hand to the IMF for money because we were bankrupt!

Thatcher transformed this county after Labour busted its back, even Blair was an awe. Thatcher cut our costs, raised our revenues then spent taxpayers' money wisely.

Burnham will squander taxpayers' money and let the next government tax the people to pay for it, and the debt it has incurred.

Burnham is unelected, Thatcher was elected 3 time by the people. Remember that - he's not my Prime Minister.

Andy Burnham is trying to argue things were great until 1979 then turned bad.

It’s just completely out of whack with all comparative data.

The period of relative decline was clearly 45-79. We received more than twice as much Marshall Aid as West Germany and just had just half the rate of economic growth to show for it.

By the mid 1980s and beyond Britain was growing faster than West Germany.

Post war we had all the advantages of a victorious and generously funded country and threw them all away on nationalisation and trade union ransoms.

West Germany developed a social market economy instead and (with less than half the aid) became richer than socialist Britain as a result.

The reforms of the 1980s saved this country. And the policy response to 2008 has thrown it back in the dirt.

This is such a standard but such a moronic leftist take. It’s a straw man - no serious person claims that mass immigration causes every single problem in Britain. The fact that ‘native’ Brits *also* do stupid stuff doesn’t prove problems caused by, and concerns about, levels of mass migration previously unprecedented in the entire history of this nation are unfounded.

The question is whether you’d rather have *only* brawling ‘native’ English fans, or brawling native fans PLUS, eg, huge rape gangs targeting ‘kafir’ girls. Maybe you are in favour of those things. Maybe you believe the benefits of mass migration outweigh the negatives . Fine - I’m open to some arguments along those lines myself.

We are talking about parents, brothers, sisters, in-laws, and nieces!

Most of the adults do not speak a single word of English, and the sponsor here does not even have the physical housing to accommodate them.

To make this an absolute comedy, this is the exact same judge who previously ruled that a fully-grown, bearded adult asylum seeker was actually a child!

While your local communities are stretched to breaking point, the unelected judiciary is using foreign treaties to hand out residency like confetti.

Worse, the court has granted the entire family total anonymity so you are not even allowed to know who is entering your country.
