Last night @BBCNews at Ten featured a ‘story’ about US dating app Bumble generously giving its staff an extra week off, in which the company was given 1m19s promotion in a 2m36s piece.

How would @BBCNews justify this? What do you think?

suggests, but only for known pixel trackers.

Have you looked into Gmail's click tracking yet? Rather concerning and also widely pervasive.

Yet an Australian-style carve-up between big tech and big media will hardly protect the media plurality that journalism in the public interest requires.

A diverse spectrum of public interest journalism deserves state support.

But when the state intervenes to fund the news, whether via big tech or otherwise, news should be funded democratically.

Let's get this debated.
